Duties & Responsibilities

MSC is seeking a Data Architect to support enterprise IT systems at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Contingent on Award.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provides expertise in designing, creating, deploying and managing an organization's secure data architecture within a hybrid Azure and on-prem environment.
  • Analyzes existing legacy system databases to determine data availability and needs with respect to the legacy applications.
  • Able to define how data should be securely stored, consumed, integrated and managed by different data entities and IT systems, as well as any applications using or processing that data.
  • Expresses strategic data requirements, outlining high level integrated designs to meet these requirements, and aligns with enterprise strategy and related business architecture.
  • Provides guidance for infrastructure and software architecture and planning. Identifies and guides development of data standards.
  • Develops data architecture principles, creates models of data that enable the implementation of the intended business architecture, creates diagrams showing key data entities, and creates an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision.
  • Assist with providing documentation artifacts for data assets and inter-relationships.


Requirements

  • MS or PhD plus five (5) years specialized experience in building, planning, modernizing, and developing data architectures.
  • Experienced in all phases of data modeling, including conceptual, logical, and physical database modeling
  • Database optimization experience.
  • Breadth of knowledge is required in established and emerging data technologies.
  • Depth of knowledge is required in established data management and monitoring technologies.
  • Requires the ability to conceive and portray the big data picture and to initiate, evaluate, and influence projects from the perspective of the entire organization.
  • Experience mapping the systems and interfaces used to manage data, sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives desired future state, and conceives projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Agile principles and methods.
  • Experience with enterprise data modeling tools like Sparx
  • MS Azure experience, including migrations
  • MS SQL Server, MS SSIS, PostgreSQL, and ETL experience
  • COTS DB integrations
  • Must meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with clinical or grants data
  • Familiarity with Lean and Agile practices
  • Azure Data Factory experience is highly desirable
  • Leadership experience
