We are currently searching for a Research Associate to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques including; complex flow cytometry; culture of cell lines; collection, isolation, and purification of primary mammalian (primarily human) cells for culture and analysis; transfection/electroporation of mammalian cells and cell lines; DNA and RNA isolation from bacteria and mammalian cells, DNA sequencing, gene amplification and cloning; quantitative RT-PCR; DNA and protein electrophoresis and immunoblotting; ELISA.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of experiments and results.
  • Write reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens, and materials involved, and results of experiments.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with mentors and laboratory team as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
  • Perform computer analysis of data using FlowJo, Prism, Sequencher, and other software to prepare data for publication.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment, and in managing biological materials.
  • Assist in training students and other laboratory personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures and techniques.


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, Master's or higher strongly preferred (Immunology, Molecular Biology, etc.)
  • 2-4 years of related experience in a laboratory.
  • Experience maintaining accurate and detailed laboratory records.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, EndNote (or similar software), FlowJo, Prism, and Sequencher.
  • Experience with immunoassays (e.g. ELISA), flow cytometry, protein work (e.g. Western Blot, protein purification) or culture of mammalian cell lines.
