JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is looking to expand our team with hard-working individuals who believe in the potential of cells as engineered medicines. We are looking for enthusiastic scientists to advance our novel targeted gene therapy platform. The candidate is a highly motivated and creative scientist, and will thrive in a vibrant research environment with cross-functional teams.

This position will report directly to the program research leader within the department of Gene Therapy. The Senior Scientist will 1) lead the design, execution and planning of in vitro and in vivo studies to characterize gene therapy candidates using primary T cells and immune cells, and 2) define and deploy immunology work to help build and optimize our platform further. This position will require close communication and collaboration within and outside the Gene Therapy function.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Integrate immunology background and provide scientific and strategic input to advance our platform
  • Design and execute in vitro or ex vivo assays for candidate characterization and selection using primary T cells, PBMCs, innate immune cells; develop new assay as necessary
  • Design and execute preclinical in vivo studies in mouse models, including dosing and immune cell analysis
  • Tissue collection and processing for downstream assays such as flow cytometry, cytokine release and molecular analysis
  • Bench work, troubleshooting, data recording, analysis, interpretation, and reporting
  • Presentation of data and progress to research leadership and teams
  • Manage junior scientists

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctoral degree (PhD 5+ years/Post-doc 2+ years) or MS (7+ years) in a relevant discipline (immunology, cell biology) with industry experience preferred but not required
  • Strong background in immunology, T cell biology
  • Hands-on experience with primary T cells, PBMC; or other primary immune cells is a plus
  • Expertise in multi-parameter flow cytometry, T cell phenotyping, T cell functional assays including cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production.
  • Experience with lentiviral transduction of T cells is preferred
  • Experience with preclinical xenograft animal models and adoptive cell therapy is preferred
  • Proficiency in standard molecular and cell biology techniques (RNA isolation, qPCR, cell culture, ELISA/MSD)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, highly collaborative environment
  • Highly organized with strong communication and analytical skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated experience with relevant software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphpad Prism, FlowJo
