JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is looking to expand our team with hard-working individuals who believe in the potential of cells and viruses as engineered medicines, have the vision to do creative things, and the determination to execute that vision.

We are looking for a Senior Research Associate in the Tech Ops Analytical Development group to help build cell-based/functional assay capabilities at Sana Biotechnology. This person will join an innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing and implementing functional methods, automation, and data analysis to support the advancement of Sana's pipeline. This position will work cross-functionally with Scientists within Research, Process Development, and Analytical Development to determine the appropriate methodologies to assess cell health, phenotype and function. The qualified candidate will have experience developing cell-based assays, working with cells and viruses, and automation technology such as liquid handlers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Assess assay platforms and reagents to improve data and throughput/ reduce acquisition time
  • Automate existing methods, as well as develop new methods to improve throughput of functional methods to increase testing capabilities of the group
  • Work with the automation team to design and implement automated data analysis and sample management tools
  • Execute functional assays to support company objectives. Maintain capabilities to relevant standards as needed (GLP, GMP etc.).
  • Develop and execute MOA-reflective methodologies for use in both regulated (e.g. lot release, in-process, and stability testing) and unregulated environments (e.g. characterization, high throughput screening)
  • Promote functional assay best practices locally and across Sana
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for functional assay core facilities
  • Provide assay support to advance process development, including daily calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and maintenance of reagents
  • Coordinate instrument evaluation, ordering and setup

    • Strong knowledge of (cell-based) functional assay principles, method development & optimization and data analysis.
    • Strong knowledge of automation instrumentation (I.e. Hamilton, HiRes) including sample and liquid handling, data analysis, and sample management
    • Experience with multiple functional assay instrumentation platforms, including (for example) high content imaging, live cell imaging, image quantification, absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, ECL
    • Knowledge or experience with multi-color flow-based applications and/or PCR-based applications such as microarray, ddPCR, or TaqMan a plus
    • Familiarity with development and /or commercialization of cell-based therapeutics, including the development of analytical methods
    • Ability to independently translate concept into methodology
    • Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects
    • The candidate should be a team player, highly organized with excellent communication skills, demonstrate curiosity and scientific rigor and excellent problem-solving skills
