About the role
We are seeking an experienced, collaborative and results-oriented individual to join our growing PacBio finance team as a FP&A Manager, R&D Finance located in Menlo Park, CA. Reporting to Vice President of Finance, this role will serve as a trusted business partner to the SVP of R&D, providing end-to-end FP&A support to the R&D organization responsible for developing PacBio's systems. This role will have a front-row seat to the groups building next generation products.

This role will lead the long-range and annual planning process for the R&D org, as well as own all forecast, close, and management reporting activities. Critical to this role will be the ability to successfully drive strategic initiatives to improve the accuracy and efficiency of our financial reporting and optimize the planning and reporting processes.

Responsibilities
  • Develop the processes, tools, and infrastructure for enabling project level budgeting, resource planning, portfolio planning. Help drive the process for rationalizing R&D investments (Headcount, OPEX spend and CAPEX) within the framework of both the annual and long-term operating plans. Update/maintain as necessary to support ongoing financial forecast deliverables.
  • Lead financial analysis, reporting, and ongoing budget management for a recently announced transformative partnership for the company
  • Analyze, synthesize and translate data into key strategic inputs and insights that will drive strategic decision making at the executive level. Extract and compile data and report out of enterprise systems including SAP
  • Develop reporting packages and dashboards for financial and business review meetings that succinctly summarize key insights on performance as well as provide recommendations on actionable insights to enable business partners to act
  • Prepare financial analysis supporting new product introductions (NPI) and capital investment decisions, including building NPV models to support resource allocations
  • Serve as a thought leader to improve and simplify processes, drive standardization, and build scalable solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in optimizing finance processes for speed, agility, and insight.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of PacBio's business model, products and KPIs to provide support and reporting capabilities to the organization
  • Support monthly/quarterly close process as it pertains to operating expense management, general ledger reviews, headcount reviews, accruals, and other related processes
  • Support R&D Business Partners in preparation for Quarterly Business Reviews and general financial reviews
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as needed


Requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant FP&A experience, preferably in a high growth environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal soft skills and ability to establish strong rapport and partnerships at all levels of the organization. Outstanding financial acumen blended with business partnership.
  • Self-directed and able to work well and communicate effectively in a team environment. Hands on and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to balance multiple deadlines and deliverables.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze large amounts of data and maintain complex financial models; demonstrated proficiency with advanced functions.
  • Working knowledge of product development process
  • Must be driven and highly motivated with positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experienced user with knowledge of ERP, BI and automated planning systems


Education
  • BS or BA in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • MBA strongly preferred, CPA, CFA or CMA a plus
