The Company

Cue Biopharma, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, is engineering a novel class of injectable biologics to selectively engage and modulate targeted T cells within the body to transform the treatment of cancer, infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. Cue Biopharma is a high growth company and is listed on NASDAQ (CUE). The company is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the heart of the life sciences corridor.

Cue Biopharma is building a world-class team of highly motivated, dedicated scientists to help us advance our research and development programs. The company culture is fast-paced and committed to scientific excellence, innovation, and teamwork.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking energetic and passionate scientists to join our Early Discovery and Innovation team to build-out and develop our early screening group. The objective of this group is to produce and assess the quality of novel and exploratory engineered candidates to guide design triage and lead identification in a data-driven manner across all therapeutic programs. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to design and develop parallel production workflows to enable rapid, high quality, small and mid-scale protein deliverables to support bioassay and biology experiments. As such, an ideal candidate must possess both strong protein production and characterization expertise, as well as collaborative and communication skills to work effectively across multiple small and dynamic teams.

Required Skills
  • Independently develop and perform purification methods to deliver high-quality novel-engineered and difficult-to-purify proteins in a timely manner to support multiple project needs.
  • Generate critical biochemical and biophysical datasets to drive candidate selection and triage.
  • Develop and implement an in-house high throughput protein purification platform through automation to enable rapid and parallel screening campaigns in lead identification.
  • Develop methods to efficiently scale production from screening to 10+mg in support of biological and analytical assays
  • Provide scientific leadership, guidance, and support across the protein purification group. Help troubleshoot and design thoughtful deliberate experiments to overcome challenges
  • Collaborate across all internal disciplines to present findings, brainstorm ideas, and initiate follow-up studies toward project progression.
  • Stay up-to-date with scientific literature and advancements in the field of protein purification and protein chemistry. Apply as appropriate to streamline workflow and improve efficiency.
  • Generate, manage, evaluate, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner. Author and review internal SOPs and production reports. Expected contribution toward external publications, posters, and presentations.
  • Effectively communicate results through written documentation and oral presentations to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage multiple parallel project timelines and deliverables and coordinate directly with project leads.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors on projects relating to purification development and tech transfer activities.
  • Maintain extensive lab presence and hands-on work.

Requirements
  • Minimum PhD with 3+ years or MS with 8+ years of industry experience in Biotech or Biopharma environment related to protein purification / analytics / engineering / structural biology.
  • Must have strong expertise in protein purification, including prior experience in wide range of protein purification platforms including tagged, untagged, and difficult-to-purify proteins.
  • Must have working knowledge of multiple chromatographic techniques (affinity, IMAC, IEX, SEC, etc.) and instrument platforms (AKTA, Agilent, etc.).
  • Working experience with various expression systems in including CHO, HEK, and other mammalian lines is required.
  • Hands on automation setup and troubleshooting experience (e.g., liquid handlers, etc.) to enable walkaway parallel protein production is strongly desired.
  • Must demonstrate a keen knowledge of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to critically analyze and assess results.
  • Must maintain a high level of scientific rigor and attention to details.
  • Must maintain good laboratory practice including safety guideline compliance and timely notebook updates.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment keeping pace with a high functioning group of scientists and adaptive to perform multiple needs in support of project advancements.
