What you will do

In the context of the rapidly evolving healthcare environment with extreme focus on the cost and affordability of innovative new specialty medicines, Amgen's US Value Based Partnerships team is relied upon to develop and test innovative solutions, in collaboration with our partners, to the most pressing issues in the US health care ecosystem. Amgen's partnerships are with both traditional (payers, governments and delivery systems) and non-traditional health care stakeholders. The US Value Based Partnerships team develops and manages new and existing partnerships, creates forums for productive collaboration and dialogue for c-suite executives from Amgen and our partners, and is further tasked with developing scaling-up plans for innovation proven to work through our partnership initiatives.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for understanding market needs that align with Amgen's strategic priorities and lead to better patient care. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a diverse cross functional team to ideate, prioritize, manage, and execute collaborative projects with strategic external partners on a day-to-day basis. He/she will work effectively with the Value-Based Partnership Field Directors and Market Access Team in the management of ongoing collaborations.

The position of Senior Manager reports to the US Director of Value-Based Partnerships, and it is located in Amgen's corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks.
  • Work with US Partnership leaders on strategic planning and partnership prioritization
  • Point of contact and lead within the US Partnership team for asthma and osteoporosis disease areas
  • Support the US Partnership team in driving end-to-end delivery of TA or Corporate-Level partnerships
  • Point of contact for Business Case Development and Partnership Valuation and Prioritization expertise
  • Support MAT and MVA teams with advancing from concept to completion requiring knowledge of both Amgen products and therapeutic areas coupled with an understanding of the compliance and legal issues unique to Value Based Partnerships
  • Tracking of Amgen Value-Based Partnerships in US, including the recognition and communication of shared findings and opportunities across partnerships and regions with senior leaders
  • Co - Ownership of brand plan integration and partner segmentation tools
  • Awareness of legal and compliance guardrails
  • Ongoing identification and implementation of improvement opportunities to help the US Partnership team run effectively and efficiently
  • Manage OSE budget for US Partnership team
  • Represent the US Partnership team in internal meetings and external customer engagements as necessary, utilizing partnership, process, product and therapeutic knowledge

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of Sales or Marketing or Consulting experience, OR
  • Master's degree & 6 years of Sales or Marketing or Consulting experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree & 8 years of Sales or Marketing or Consulting experience, OR
  • Associate's degree &10 years of Sales or Marketing or Consulting experience, OR
  • High school diploma/GED & 12 years of Sales or Marketing or Consulting experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA, MPH or MS
  • Understanding or familiarity with the Value & Access organization, and how it works with other parts of the business
  • Business development / partnership experience across a broad spectrum of healthcare system partners (e.g., payers, providers, academic organizations, patient organizations, government organizations, health technology companies)
  • Previous payer experience or a strong understanding of the payer environment including coverage and reimbursement, pricing, health technologies assessment
  • Contracting and valuation modeling experience
  • Awareness and ability to navigate and conform to Commercialization and Corporate Governance processes
  • Ability to review clinical and health economic literature, including disease state information, clinical trial design and results, and pharmacoeconomic studies, in order to understand implications for value to payers and providers
  • Quick learner, proactive, takes initiative, goal oriented and results drive
  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, active listening, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment and build strong, successful business partnerships with affiliate, regional and global colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, identify strategic options and trade-offs
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability in development of business strategy
  • Excellent oral/written communications skills and interpersonal skills
