I. JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Automation Engineer will manage all automated control systems at the Rockville site. This role will manage multiple projects of varying complexity and size, which will include new projects, improvements, and upgrades to current systems, and managing outside system integrators to supplement internal resources where needed. The role will be required to work cross-functionally with Emergent engineers, technicians, IT infrastructure, manufacturing, validation, and quality control/quality assurance.

• In conjunction with the project engineering, create and adhere to project budgets and schedules and monitors project for compliance to budget
• Perform work in accordance with internal SOPS and good engineering practices, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as GAMP, CGMP, MOSH, EPA, DEQ and applicable state, local and federal codes
• Prepares project engineering RFPs related to automation scopes of work
• Coordinates the efforts of 3rd party automation integrators
• Prepares detailed automation project cost estimates
• Prepares engineering calculations and analysis related to process control design and equipment selections
• Represents the automation discipline on internal and global committees and initiatives
• May determine methods and procedures on new complex assignments
• Provide technical direction and leadership on a project basis for Engineers, Associate Engineers, and Technicians
• Provide technical customer service and project lead for automation engineering projects for capital projects focusing, process optimization, risk mitigation, and compliance improvements
• Perform and oversees programming, maintenance and troubleshooting of PLCs and environmental monitoring systems
• Oversight and coordination of automation and controls activities that include design, specification creation, procurement, construction/installation oversight, system troubleshooting and repairs, and operation of facility systems
• Develop design specification and cost estimates for automation scope of work
• Develop and implement training programs for automated system to transfer knowledge to other functions on equipment/systems
• Possess and apply a broad knowledge of automation principles, practices, and procedures to complete difficult assignments.
• Requires vaccination against different viruses including vaccinia virus.

III. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with a focus on electrical/automation
• Minimum of 8 years experience in an industrial controls setting
• Basic programming and troubleshooting experience with PLCs from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, and B&R
• Strong communication and computer skills
• Expert knowledge of automation principles and concepts such as GAMP, 21 CFR11 requirements, data integrity concepts
• Must be able to provide clear direction while motivating teams and lead by example through strong work ethics and high standards
• Responsible for working well within teams and be effective in leading meetings with the customer, other project stakeholders, and external consultants during all phases of the project
• Must be efficient to gather, design, configure, integrate, and implement process control solutions for the manufacturing industry including batch software, PLC based control systems, HMI packages, building management systems, SCADA systems, and specialized pharmaceutical equipment/systems
