Fate Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join the Flow Cytometry Core team. The core provides direct support to multiple Research and Development groups and operates state-of-the-art cutting-edge technology using flow cytometry to evaluate and develop novel iPSC-derived hematopoietic cell-based therapeutics. We are seeking a team player with in-depth understanding of flow cytometry and the technology, who possesses the ability and experience to operate both analytical and sorting instrumentation for scientists using the Flow Cytometry Core. This is a full-time position reporting to the Flow Cytometry Core Manager and is located at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, California.

Responsibilities:
• Lead daily operations of a large, fast-paced, dynamic and expanding core environment
• Responsible for daily instrument maintenance and optimization, quality control and operation of 10-15 complex analyzers and high-end cell sorters located in satellite labs
• Interprets and reports instrument calibration errors and troubleshoots core instrumentation
• Provides operator-assisted cell sorting in direct support of R&D teams, maintains and organizes schedules for cell sorting equipment
• Performing GMP-compliant cell sorting assays
• Maintain current and develop new SOPs for all aspects of instrument operation
• Provides technical consultation in sample preparation assays, staining protocols, assay development, optimization and implementation, data analysis and interpretation
• Provide basic instrument training, support development of training programs, effectively communicates, and gives hands-on support/consultation to new and existing facility users in instrument setup and experimental design
• Provide scientific consultation in multicolor panel design and developing new flow cytometry assays
• Performs maintenance of additional laboratory equipment and supply inventory for flow cytometry consumables and reagents and general laboratory organization

Qualifications
• B.S. / M.S. in General Sciences or other related field
• A minimum of 3 years of experience with tissue culture, sample preparation and antibody panel staining
• Extensive experience (>5 years) working in a Flow Cytometry Core, operating a diverse array of flow cytometry analytical platforms including performing hands-on high-speed 6-8 multiparameter cell sorting assays
• Experience using BD FACSDiva, CytExpert, FlowJo, or other specialized data analysis software is preferred
• Experience operating BD, Beckman Coulter, Cytek Biosciences and other flow cytometry platforms is preferred
• Experience working in a GMP environment or operating under a quality system is preferred
• Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate patience, a willingness to help others, convey complex principles clearly and concisely to all experience levels
• Attention to detail, excellent record keeping abilities, and willingness to work in a collaborative environment are a must

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
• 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA
• Must be willing to work in a biohazardous environment (BSL-2)
• Must be willing to lift maximum of 50lbs
• Must be able to work with high voltage equipment
