We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist based in Cambridge, MA in the Genomics Research Center. This role involves the identification and characterization of underlying genetic, epigenetic, or genomic factors that are associated with disease diagnosis, prognosis, response (efficacy and safety) to new drug treatment, and patient stratification in close collaboration with the Clinical Translational Medicine Immunology team.

The Genomics Research Center (GRC) is a center of excellence for bioinformatics, functional genomics, human genetics, pharmacogenomics and multiple population cohorts (over 1 million genomes) and works across all R&D, and other areas such as process sciences and corporate strategy. The GRC plays an integral role towards our goal of developing world class genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior of and response to our drugs in clinical trials.

Within the GRC, the Department of Computational Biology drives research by data analysis and data integration with Discovery and Development in activities such as the identification and validation of new targets, elucidating underlying biological mechanisms for disease development and progression, translational research, and patient stratification.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Devise and execute sophisticated analyses to extract meaningful and actionable information from various omics (e.g. genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, proteomic) data from clinical / translational activities from our Immunology programs, as well as from relevant external studies.
  • Primarily collaborate with pharmacogenomics / translational science in Immunology (Clinical Translational Medicine Immunology) to contribute to studies related to drug response, biomarkers, or disease etiology and progression, with focus on the computational aspects of the projects.
  • Perform necessary quality control checks and data management of large omics data and phenotypic datasets.
  • Review and contribute to the establishment of relevant pipelines, workflows, and underlying methodology.
  • Communicate analytical results verbally and in writing for scientific and technical audiences.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS or PhD degree in either quantitative science (computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, statistics, epidemiology, mathematics) with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0+ (PhD) years of experience.
  • Strong biology knowledge or biological sciences (immunology preferred) with strong quantitative skills.
  • Fluency in 1 or more relevant programming languages such as R, Python, Perl, Java, or C++, and be comfortable working in a HPC Linux environment.
  • Experience with large-scale data analysis involving the integration of next generation sequencing data.
  • Ability to summarize analytical results, derive biological/clinical interpretation and recommend follow up actions to peer biologists/clinicians.
  • Hands-on experience in genomics, genetic and/or epigenetic data analyses using existing and custom pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills, innate scientific curiosity and collaborative team spirit

Preferred qualifications:
  • Working experience in biopharma industry.
  • Experience in translating genomic data into clinically relevant results.
  • Experience with large-scale research projects involving multi-omic data, such as whole exome and whole genome sequencing data, array-based genotype data, RNA-seq data, array-based expression data, methylome data, and neuroimaging data.
  • Fluency with clinical trials and translational studies.
