Undergrad Intern - Drug Substance Technology & Engineering

This internship appointment will occur within the Process Development Drug Substance Technology and Engineering (DSTE) functional unit which enables Amgen's mission to serve patients by transforming laboratory-scale developmental processes into reliable and efficient manufacturing operations through scientific expertise, engineering advances, and deployment of digital and manufacturing technologies. Responsibilities of the function include support for establishment of process requirements, design of process operations, and support of commercial manufacturing operations.

This internship provides the opportunity to learn about applications of digital technologies and data science in the drug substance tech transfer processes. There will be opportunity to understand how manufacturing processes are designed and operationalized, working with cross-functional new-product introduction teams

The intern will be expected to do the following:
  • Perform research and analyze to identify gaps between digital source system parameter lists and reference data repositories.
  • Identifying digital objects where parameters have been used that are not from reference data repositories
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop an options analysis to address gaps based on system capabilities
  • Support use case creation, development, and testing for digital tech transfer projects

Basic Qualifications

  • Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Information Technology
  • Strong analytical/quantitative skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to take on several projects at one time
  • Able to apply information system technology concepts to manufacturing operations
  • Able to prioritize and objectively quantify information systems projects value to business
