Job Description:

Do you have experience in Scientific Publications and Medical Communications with a focus in oncology?

At Ipsen, as the Scientific Publications and Medical Communications Associate Director, you will be accountable and responsible for all aspects of scientific publications and medical communication for the Oncology Therapeutic Area, including strategic & tactical planning, execution and implementation of key company scientific data to be presented at various planned relevant congresses. You will also serve as the central point of contact and overall coordinator for all internal and external stakeholders regarding scientific publications (abstracts, posters, manuscripts) for the assigned products and Medical Communication. Additionally, you will also have external vendor oversight in managing the write up of manuscript with internal and external authors and will select intended journal, as per company SOP, existing scientific publication guidelines and Medical communication activities in North America. As Associate Director, you will also need to coordinate alignment with other key internal partners including Medical Director, Head of Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations group running the Oncology studies, Statistics, and Regional/global Medical Affairs personnel.

Your role will involve:

Publication Planning
  • To lead in the preparation and maintenance of rolling 12-month strategic publication plans in conjunction with the Oncology cross-functional team and external medical writing and communication agencies
  • To prepare for, lead & follow up actions from regular publication team meetings for assigned projects to drive progress forward in publishing scientific results
  • To develop and maintain relationships with staff across Ipsen to ensure that all relevant information is integrated into one centrally maintained product or therapy area publication plan
  • To liaise with Global/Regional/local Medical Information and other stakeholder groups to develop and maintain up-to-date bibliographies for assigned compounds
  • To maintain up-to-date information in dedicated publication application(s) and SharePoint sites for assigned projects to share information with interested parties & document compliance with processes
  • To stay abreast of publication guideline developments and ensure that any new advances are brought into Ipsen as necessary


Management of Publications
  • To manage progress and drive the preparation, review, approval, and congress/journals submission of scientific publications
  • To ensure that all publication activities are of high scientific and medical quality and meet Good Publication Practices standards
  • To prepare, review, revise and edit a variety of scientific documents (e.g. abstracts, posters, papers, review articles, oral presentations, etc.) for external publication for assigned projects, when necessary
  • To prepare for, lead & follow up actions from regular publication team meetings for assigned projects to drive progress forward in publishing scientific results
  • To North America Medical affairs/R&D team in the management of their publications
  • To manage relationships, negotiations, contracts and budgets with subcontractors to achieve high quality and timely delivery with good value for money
  • To manage relationships with external authors in the preparation and review of manuscripts for publication for assigned projects, including the management of publication steering committees, if applicable.


Medical Communications
  • To communicate publication and communication planning objectives and processes to key stakeholders and ensure their proactive involvement in delivery
  • To implement and develop the scientific publication and communication plans for all compounds in research and development and those marketed globally
  • To develop scientific messaging platforms (Medical Communication Frameworks) in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • To assist Oncology therapeutic areas in the creation and review of medical communication activities, ensuring that the most-up-date, scientific information is included and in compliance with all global and local regulations and guidelines
  • To support Oncology therapeutic areas with congress activities, including management and development of congress highlight reports for circulation internally and externally as required, and symposia activity


Budget
  • To prepare budgets and forecasts in collaboration with finance and other relevant functions to meet the company's objectives
  • To manage the departmental & external expenditure effectively
  • In collaboration with the Vendor and Congress Manager, to explore & propose alternative outsourcing and contracting options, as necessary


In return, you will bring:

Degree in Life Sciences with proficiency in clinical research development or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences or related fields is required; Advanced degrees in Health Sciences or related fields are highly preferred (MD, PhD, PharmD, MS).

  • 5+ years of industry experience in Medical Communication, Publications, Medical Affairs, within a pharmaceutical/biotech company or scientific publication/medical communication agencies. Can include Fellowship experience
  • Competency with Medical Affairs deliverables, with areas of proficiency
  • Ability to synthesize information to draw conclusions and form a big picture view; ability to formulate recommendations accordingly
  • Ability to execute on specific deliverables within a tactical plan with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in translating strategy to tactics, assisting with formulation of aspects of the disease tactical plan
  • Medical or Scientific proficiency in oncology preferable
  • General understanding of the specific disease(s) and treatments
  • Understanding of methods of data generation and dissemination
  • Understanding of activities related to planning, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials
  • Ability to engage collaboratively with external experts (investigators, opinion leaders) in the disease area
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly adopt processes
  • Recommends modifications to processes or policies to senior functional management
  • Demonstrated ability to form collaborative partnerships within formal and informal networks
  • Demonstrated history of effective teamwork
  • Ability to manage and coach others within a team as an individual contributor or first-line manager (direct and influence management)
