The Commercial Manufacturing Support group within the BioProcess Development Department supports biologic product manufacturing, drives, and implements improvement of processes and technologies for commercial drugs to meet AbbVie's quality, compliance, financial and innovation goals for the benefit of our internal/external programs. We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Scientist II position based in Worcester, MA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Be the subject matter expert for biologic production manufacturing processes at both small and large scale. This includes supporting downstream process transfer, facility fit, troubleshooting, and technical investigations
  • Work with Production, Facilities, Engineering, and Quality to support manufacturing deviation investigation for late clinical stage and commercial biologics manufacturing processes
  • Assist the alignment with GMP compliance and regulatory requirement
  • Support quality risk management and manufacturing audit.
  • Author site statement papers and risk assessment reports
  • Assists in and initiate continuous improvement activities
  • Performs data acquisition, trending and analysis in a timely manner. Assists in experimental designs and data interpretation
  • Documents work appropriately in lab notebooks and technical memos; and writing technical reports

Basic Requirements: • BS or MS in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years (BS) or 0+ years (MS) of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience• Understands basic scientific/engineering principles applicable to assigned tasks. • Capability to consult literature/reports or other independent research to understand and develop scientific purposes of assignments. • Has demonstrated ability to identify critical information from own work and has also contributed to experimental design. • Good communication and scientific skills, the desire and drive to grow and develop scientifically. • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment. • Strong sense of urgency and self-motivated desire to achieve. • Must have a "results-oriented" work ethic and a positive, "can-do" attitude.

Preferred: • Previous biopharmaceutical industry experience within relevant scientific discipline. • Purification experience on centrifugation, chromatography, and filtration. • Prior experience with manufacturing support and knowledge of process development.
