Job Details

We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we'll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Research Infrastructure team. We encourage applicants skilled in performing lab experiments independently who have the desire to develop into a versatile engineer and transition to a high growth opportunity enabling new lab technologies. The engineer will carry out projects across the drug discovery process and will play a key role in supporting our state-of-the-art automation suite. You will collaborate with scientific groups in drug discovery, early research, and biology to advance the technology important to our platform and program development.

Your Role in Navigating the Maze:
  • Collaborate with scientists to improve the efficiency and throughput of lab workflows utilizing automated workcells and liquid handling platforms. This includes creating scripts, executing experiments to optimize conditions, and deploying solutions across the drug development landscape, from early discovery to compound screening
  • Interface and provide automation support for scientists and aid with training them in using platforms in the automation labs
  • Proactively maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and coordinate with vendors to ensure minimal downtime
  • Support data integration activities by partnering with colleagues in informatics to automate data capture and analysis from lab instrumentation
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes and instruments

Your Navigation Tools:
  • BS degree or higher in a scientific or engineering discipline (STEM) with 2+ years of post-graduate experience in a lab research environment
  • Significant hands-on laboratory experience and ability to design and carry out independent experiments at the bench is required. Experience with cell culture is highly preferred
  • Experience with transferring lab workflows from assay development to production level by implementing optimization, scale-up, and quality control techniques
  • Experience in writing scripts on any liquid handler platform (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Biomek, Bravo), experience with scheduling software (e.g., GBG, Overlord, Momentum, VWorks), or experience with scripting languages like Python is preferred
  • Well-developed analytical skills, high scientific rigor, and a problem-solving mindset
  • An ability to work in a fast paced, startup environment and adaptability to execute on changing project demands
  • Effective communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to engage in cross-functional collaboration and teamwork
  • Intrinsic motivation and a passion for technology development, innovation, and enabling outstanding science

Company

Maze Therapeutics is translating novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines, through an approach that integrates human genetics and functional genomics. Advances in these areas have enabled us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases, which we aim to turn into medicines that mimic protective mutations.

What are genetic modifiers?

Despite an understanding of the genetic basis for many diseases, it remains a mystery why some people with a disease-causing mutation never get sick. This is often due to genes elsewhere in our DNA that affect the severity of disease and can provide a natural form of protection.

The Maze approach

Dramatic advances in human genetics and functional genomics now enable us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases. Today, we believe we can systematically identify genetic modifiers and turn these insights into medicines. We have assembled a world-class team to realize this vision, including creative scientific pioneers, experienced company builders and biotech industry leaders.
