Job Details
Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.
Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates.
We are seeking a motivated graduate intern to work within the Genome Analysis Unit (GAU) in South San Francisco to assist in the development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques. The GAU is a multi-disciplinary effort embedded into our drug discovery engine that uses genetic, genomic and computational tools to answer critical drug discovery questions from target inception through development. The intern will help design, carry out and analyze experiments to expand our single-cell NGS capabilities. This position provides an excellent opportunity to familiarize a graduate student with cutting-edge genomics techniques and data analysis for drug discovery.
Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Currently enrolled in an MBA program OR a Master's program OR a PharmD program OR PhD program from an accredited college or university and completion of the first year of the program before internship starts
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree concentration(s) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics.
- Strong computer skills; Experience with coding, (e.g. R-preferred, Python) and experience working with Linux systems.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply research findings, capture information, interpret and analyze results.
- Strong project management skills, priority setting, timely delivery of results, and multi-tasking.
- Ability to think critically, actively anticipate problems and propose solutions and to work effectively/collaboratively across teams.
