Staff Scientist, Analytical Chemistry

Regeneron's Analytical Chemistry Group, Inc. located at Tarrytown, NY is looking for a Staff Scientist, Analytical Chemistry. The Staff Scientist will work in a state-of-the-art analytical lab and lead characterization of therapeutic protein drug candidates to enhance all stages of drug development, from early-stage candidate selections to late-stage regulatory submissions. As a group, our Analytical Chemistry team develops innovative mass spectrometry-related technologies to support Regeneron R&D programs in the context of multidisciplinary project teams.

A Typical Day in the Role Might Look Like:

• Lead analytical and biochemical characterization of therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies, bispecifics, adeno-associated virus and other therapeutic drug candidates to support different drug development activities;
• Accountable for the development of analytical strategies and methods to elucidate and ascertain quality attributes, risk assessment and control strategies, including PTMs, product and process related impurities, especially for host cell proteins (HCPs), charge variants, LMW/HMW species, sequence variants, etc., to address emerging challenges
• Provide analytical mentorship and support for formulation development, upstream and downstream functional groups manufacturing to tackle real-time development issues in the process development and OOT/OOS investigations
• Identify and drive technical innovations that will supply future developmental needs and improvements
• Present work at the internal and external meetings; prepares and reviews development reports, memos, and regulatory submission documents in CMC (e.g., IND, IMPD, BLA, MAA, comparability and other study reports.) and peer-reviewed articles for publications
• Serve as a team representative and provides the knowledge and expertise of analytics to cross-function teams;
• Supervise and improve staff performance and build a scientific climate of excellence to achieve business goals.

This role requires PhD in chemistry, or biochemistry with 5-10 years of shown experience, and consistent track record of publications in the field of endeavor. Experience in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry with biopharma experience especially in host cell proteins (HCPs) analysis is highly desired. Knowledge of both upstream and downstream process development is a plus. Expertise in mass spectrometry principles and applications for protein characterization, with keen analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for Orbitraps, Q-Exactive, Q-TOF and/or Triple-quadruple MS systems desired. Knowledge of and trouble-shooting skills in separation science (e.g. U/HPLC, nanoLC, SEC, IEX, HIC, HILIC, 2D-LC, CE, iCIEF, etc.) needed. Proficiency in LC and MS-related software, such as Xcalibur, MassLynx, MassHunter, Proteome Discoverer, Byonics, Skyline, Panorama, Empower desired. Abilities in computer programming and bioinformatics a plus. Experience with liquid handling and automation systems is a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills a plus. Experiences in composing regulatory submission documents and knowledge in the industry practice and regulatory guidance on analytics development desired. Passion for science with strong leadership and motivation of making contributions in a team environment is a must.
