SUMMARY
The Principal Scientist, Protein Sciences will have a deep and broad knowledge of protein analytical technology, including chromatographic and biophysical characterization methods. He/She will lead efforts to assess the developability of monoclonal antibodies and communicate the strategies and results to both the team and company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Manage purification, analytical characterization and developability assessment of monoclonal antibodies and other biologics modalities to support candidate selection and pre-clinical development of therapeutic programs.
  • Lead analytical characterization of reagents and engineered constructs.
  • Present and communicate strategies, concepts and results to multidisciplinary drug discovery teams.
  • Lead and mentor scientists; facilitating their contributions to the team, the company and career development. Contribute to a culture that values continuous learning and development.
  • Stay abreast of latest scientific and competitive developments around therapeutic platform choice/s and experimental methods; including solubility, aggregation, glycol- and charge-variant analysis, stress testing and peptide mapping of antibodies and establishing working relationships with CROs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May supervise employees within the Research Department either directly or via matrix management. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include leading and mentoring scientist, facilitating their contributions to team, the company their career development.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Deep and broad knowledge of protein analytical technology including chromatographic and biophysical characterization methods such as ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography (UPLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (size-exclusion chromatography, ion-exchange, reversed- phase, hydrophobic chromatography), capillary electrophoresis, capillary isoelectric focusing, dynamic and static light scattering (DLS, MALS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), viscosity and stability assessments.
  • Excellent organization in day to day experiments and timely updating of experiment files
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Preferred - Characterization of antibody/protein kinetics by e.g. SPR/BLI.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Ph.D. in protein chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related discipline with at least 8 years of experience in protein analytical characterization or BS/MS degree with at least 12 years of experience in protein purification and analytical characterization.
