Pacific Biosciences is seeking a Scientist to work within a dynamic interdisciplinary team to help us develop and characterize DNA sample preparation process flows for our single molecule DNA sequencing systems. The successful candidate must have a strong molecular biology background, with an emphasis on DNA manipulation for the preparation of next generation-based sequencing libraries. The suitable candidate will evaluate new technologies that improve various process flows and investigate potential novel applications. Duties will primarily involve lab work, along with data analysis and sample verification. Functions involve exploring DNA-based library process flow development and optimization, along with running next generation Pacific Biosciences sequencing platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for experimental design and implementation. This individual will closely interface with other team members in a cross-functional and collaborative manner.

Position Requirements:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology or related field.
  • 4-10 years of biotechnology industry experience desired.
  • Strong molecular biology background, with an emphasis in the following areas of expertise: DNA manipulation, such as extraction, fragmentation, restriction digestion, ligation, DNA repair, size-selection, purification, and PCR.
  • Knowledgeable in DNA modifying enzymes.
  • Experience with next generation library construction is desirable.
  • Primary responsibilities will focus on lab work-related activities.
  • Protocol development and optimization experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with R and Python is desirable but not required.
  • Prior experience with protein expression and purification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with liquid automation instrumentation is a plus.
  • Ability to design, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously at a high level of proficiency and producing deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Effective communication (written/verbal) and ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team are critical.
  • Self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision.
