Position Overview:

The Director of Research Operations will play a key role within the Research group, providing business oversight and driving progress and efficiency. You will provide direction and guidance in setting, monitoring, and achieving goals and objectives; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and establishing and monitoring budgets. You will develop appropriate metrics and analytics, evaluate and make recommendations on resources, and create and institute communication formats useful to the CSO, research leadership, and the broader organization.

Job Responsibilities will include:
  • Manages the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of departmental operations including but not limited to research administration, lab services, budget/finance, program administration, human resources, communications, and compliance
  • Instills a project management discipline within Research, and extends that to cross-functional touchpoints
  • Monitors trends and establishes goals for the department in collaboration with R&D leadership
  • Provide guidance on the interpretation, implementation, and compliance with policies and regulations
  • Recommends actions to ensure compliance
  • Represents the department at the company level
  • Create and establish meaningful reporting and communication tools surrounding key initiatives that support a project's progress
  • Serves as the primary role in the development & implementation of the annual budget
  • Participates in short-term budget planning and supports long term budget planning
  • Manages budget monitoring, expenditure review and approval, conducting analyses, creating forecasts and identifying trends
  • In coordination with the R&D Leads and HR, provides overall administrative management of HR processes (workforce planning, recruitment administration, job design, etc.).
  • Consult with R&D leadership on project document design and presentation strategies

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in a life science, chemistry, pharmaceutical science or related field with 5-7 years of applicable work experience
  • Previous experience coordinating projects or equivalent experience within pharma industry, and specifically in Research, is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Organized and able to work independently, as well as ability to build stable working relationships with team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, using their experience and knowledge when considering a broad range of project factors; recognize strategic opportunities for success
  • Must be team-oriented with ability to bring people together; influence, lead and direct in the development of specific goals and objectives
  • Ability to create, motivate and facilitate cross-team collaboration across business units to deliver on project and organizational objectives
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Exposure to project management principles, including prior usage of Smartsheet or MS-Project.


Reporting Structure:

This position reports to the SVP, Project & Alliance Management and will supervise employees, as required.
