What Your New Manager Wants You To Know

The Director, Medical Affairs (Facial Aesthetics) is a key strategic leader in the FAS Strategic Medical Unit. Working under the leadership and guidance of AVP Facial Aesthetics, in partnership with key Medical functional units, the Director, Medical Affairs will support development of a comprehensive medical strategy for specific products within the facial aesthetics portfolio. Key deliverables include the implementation of the FAS Strategic Medical Unit (SMU) strategy and tactics that includes data generation, content creation, scientific communications and synthesis of insights collected by field MSL teams. This leader will contribute medical practice insights to support the clinical development, GEV, publications, marketing, sales, and regulatory functions to ensure that they are developing product and development strategies that will be relevant to the market. The Director, Medical Affairs must conduct their work activities in compliance with all AbbVie internal requirements and with all applicable regional regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives.

You Will

Strategic and Tactical Planning
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the US Facial Aesthetics strategic and tactical plans aligned with the Medical Aesthetics Therapeutic Area. Participate in product pre-launch, launch and post-launch scientific support.
  • Measure and communicate performance and progress on project milestones.
  • Ensure alignment of Medical functional support teams supporting the FAS SMU to the SMU plans.
  • Provide TA specific strategic guidance to FAS Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and develop educational parameters for independent medical education (if applicable).
  • Support international FAS and Medical Aesthetics colleagues to facilitate implementation of FAS strategies and tactics.
  • Contributing to planning and execution of medical advisory boards to inform current and future AbbVie Medical- FAS strategic decisions.
  • Contribute to Commercial planning by leveraging medical/scientific expertise, knowledge of scientific data and understanding of the external healthcare environment.
  • Advise and support Commercial colleagues in the development of their marketing plans and scientific materials

Medical and Scientific Data Generation and Communication
  • Under guidance from SMU leadership, help develop and execute data generation plans (e.g. Phase 4) to provide post marketing data that supports FAS portfolio
  • Collaborate with the External Scientific Communications team to contribute to robust publication plans for FAS SMU
  • Collaborate with FAS SMU team members to identify key scientific content needed for field MSL teams

External Relationships
  • Establish and maintain internal organizational links with the broader R&D, Commercial and other AbbVie departments to ensure appropriate support for FAS SMU.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with top tier thought leaders in Facial Aesthetics to establish a strong scientific presence in the clinical and academic communities.
  • Collaborate with the MSL teams to ensure thought leader development and communication is optimized.
  • Collaborate with GEV team to establish scientific and clinical credibility for clinical outcomes focused on patient reported outcomes.
  • Assess support of external CME, IIT proposals and concepts related to FAS to ensure alignment with SMU plans.
  • Deliver portfolio-related clinical presentations as needed and participate in prioritized scientific congresses.
  • Collect HCP and MSL insights to inform AbbVie strategy (e.g. via advisory boards, strategic insights, field insight discussions)

Qualifications

You Bring
  • Medical Degree (MD), PhD, PharmD and/or other higher scientific degree.
  • Solid understanding legal and regulatory guidelines; knowledge of promotional regulations, FDA regulations as they relate to device and pharma approvals.
  • Progressive experience in healthcare industry and medical device industry in medical affairs function.
  • Minimum 2 years' therapeutic area relevant experience required; minimum 5 years work experience within the healthcare/medical device industry.
  • Therapeutic area relevant experience in the therapeutic area is strongly preferred, as well as experience in late phase studies, publications and broad medical affairs activities.
  • An understanding of Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, PhRMA code, FDACFR, ISO, clinical research ethics, HIPAA and patient privacy laws, EU Directive and other applicable local regulations.
  • The ability to handle and prioritize multiple pr ojects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and collaborate compliantly and effectively with internal cross-functional stakeholders and therapeutic area thought leaders.
  • Expertise to influence others without direct reporting relationships
