AbbVie is seeking an experienced Clinical Veterinarian to join our team. In this role, you will execute and provide clinical oversight including diagnosis and treatment for disease processes in research animals under area of responsibility. You will also provide surgical support to needed areas of research in both small and large animals.

You will:

• Monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with applicable animal welfare regulations and help maintain facilities for continued AAALAC accreditation. Perform veterinary rounds as scheduled and provide routine and non-routine veterinary medical care and technical procedures, (e.g., preventative medicine, pre-operative, interoperative, and post-operative) for a variety of species.
• Perform surgery, interventional surgery or diagnostic techniques (e.g., radiographs, ultrasound) to support R&D investigations and pre-clinical studies for regulatory submission.
• Monitors colony health to assure the quality of vendors, and the adequacy of the health of all animals received within the facilities of the department.
• Provide scientific expertise on animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians. Participate in scientific research & development activities with other AbbVie Scientists. Participate in collaborative research and the generation of animal models for ocular or other therapeutic areas.
• Incorporate the 3 R's of Replacement, Refinement, and Reduction in their daily decision-making, conduct of research-oriented activities and guidance to research staff.
• Serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Provide support for activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and animal welfare oversight, including protocol review, program review and facility inspections.
• Contribute to the training and development of veterinary, husbandry and research staff. Training may include veterinary diagnostics, techniques and minor surgical procedures.
• Write, review and update veterinary care SOPs as required.

Qualifications

You Bring:

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from American Veterinary Medical Association accredited or equivalent institution.
• License to practice in at least one state within the US and ability to obtain a license and USDA accreditation in California within 6 months of hire.
• Broad knowledge and expertise in laboratory animal health/medicine, diagnostics, pathology, treatment, surgical procedures, and clinical care of a wide variety of research animal species, including non-human primates
• Proven expertise in identifying key issues, trends, and cause/effects as they impact the business while encouraging and providing opportunities to share knowledge by providing expertise on all internal collaborations.
• American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board eligibility preferred.

Experience:
• DVM with ACLAM board eligibility and 3+ years of lab animal experience; OR
• DVM without ACLAM board eligibility and 5+ years laboratory animal experience; OR
• DVM with PhD and 2+ years animal laboratory experience.
