Nektar has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Scientist, Translational Modeling & Simulation to join their team.
Develops predictive models to capture the dynamics of diverse and complex biological systems with special emphasis on immune oncology. Uses mathematical modeling to describe variation in disease progression and response to therapeutic interventions. Leverages knowledge and understanding of the use of physiologically based (PB) PK and PD models to translate results across species. Works in close partnerships across various functions, including Research, Nonclinical and Clinical Development, Biostatistics, and Regulatory. This job contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific and/or medical creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting, and may recommend new methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Develops quantitative approaches to capture the behavior of a biological system of interest, preferably utilizing software that has gained traction in the field of Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP). Aims to identify key sources of variability and uncertainty. Utilizes PB PK/PD and QSP modeling approaches to support clinical development and registration of Nektar proprietary drug products. Analyzes and communicates study results and prepares research reports and summary documents for use in regulatory submissions. Other duties as assigned.
A PhD in quantitative field (mathematics, engineering, computer science) or closely related scientific discipline is required. Interest in biology is strongly encouraged. Equivalent experience may be accepted. A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in applying quantitative modeling to analyze and report nonclinical and clinical drug development studies is required. Post-doctoral work may serve as experience. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific and/or medical creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. Must have sound knowledge of modeling principles and possess strong computational skills. Must be proficient in at least one of the following: R, Python, Matlab and its toolboxes, Berkeley Madonna, Nonmem, Monolix. Experience applying drug development science (e.g., ADME, PK and PK/PD methods and simulation, statistics, etc.) to streamline drug development is desirable. Experience in physiology, PBPK/PD modeling and simulation, and good knowledge of the scientific literature in the field is highly desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required; must be able to independently create high quality written reports and summary documents for use in regulatory submissions.
