Purpose:

As a recognized multidisciplinary expert, the Director of Architecture for Digital Manufacturing drives functional performance by (1) designing and implementing solutions aimed at enabling or accelerating the delivery of new or improved products, (2) delivering secure and resilient business solutions and technical capabilities in line with the S95 framework, (3) advancing foundational strategies and solutions for Industry 4.0 capability realization, (4) transitioning legacy application integrations to event-driven and micro-service architectures, and (5) stewarding the evolution and operational maturation of AbbVie manufacturing security.

You are a technical leader capable of acting at group, department and cross-functional levels across both Information Technology and Operational Technology disciplines. You will shape the high level enterprise-wide architecture and align IT capabilities to business needs. This role is the link between strategic planning, performance management, and investment management and requires a strong fluency in both technology and value mapping. To achieve these objectives, you will manage a team of architects and technical leaders; your charter is wide and deep, spanning cyber security, operational resiliency, real-time data integration, Smart Factory and other digital plant initiatives, and IT/OT integration and automation.

Responsibilities:
  • Create new solutions and architecture models that contribute to organizational effectiveness.
  • Provide planning and discipline to ensure that investments in process improvement, information, and technology support the organization's strategic goals, enabling quick responses to changes in market conditions and new opportunities.
  • Develop technology strategy in alignment with IME functional goals and key business objectives.
  • Collaborate with functional experts to ensure technical objectives are integrated into activities associated with the accelerated development of new/improved products or technology.
  • Drive convergence and lifecycle optimization between Operations IT (Business Technology Solutions) and Automation from an Architectural, cyber, resiliency, and Industry 4.0 point of view.
  • Work across Infrastructure, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Engineering / Automation to drive operational resilience and security.
  • Advance technical expertise within Operations IT (Business Technology Solutions) through proactive thought leadership, knowledge sharing, and subject matter expertise counsel.
  • Mentor and train functional colleagues to meet current and emerging business challenges.
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness of major project plans within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.
  • Nurture and mature regular technical design reviews with key stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic consultancy support to customers when defining / designing business processes and researching / identifying enabling technologies based on customer requirements.
  • Source, identify, and assess for relevance emerging technological trends from both internal and external sources.
  • Proactively drive strategic business thinking to gain maximum benefit from investments.
  • Apply imagination and innovation by creating, inventing, and implementing new or better approaches, alternatives and breakthrough ideas that generate functional value.
  • Shape relationships with affiliates, subsidiaries, vendors, and industry peers in accordance with Abbvie Values, Vendor Management Office, and Purchasing to further the mission, vision and goals of the organization.
  • Present technology concepts and results for functional technical and non-technical leaders as well as external stakeholders that drive business objectives (OPEX, MEP, Compliance, Human efficiency)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of related work experience
  • Master's Degree or equivalent education in Science/Technology or equivalent education with extensive (typically 16 years) of related work.
  • Experience in sophisticated business environments across EA frameworks.
  • Technical background in healthcare, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices or pharmaceutical companies.
  • At least 12 years of experience in a variety of IT roles including technical, application development, business systems, and data management.
  • Additional experience in setting IT Strategy, formal product evaluations, interactions with senior IT management, and managing multi-divisional and cross-divisional teams.
  • Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved technology solutions with remarkable impact on company productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others in areas of technology.
