Position Overview:

Molecular Templates is seeking a highly motivated analyst to support the Analytical Department (AD) in testing of in-process and release of novel protein-based therapeutics. Under the direction of AD team lead and/or Director, this position will perform daily activities, such as method optimization, sample preparation, instrument setup, generation of calibration curves, and calculation of results, using HPLC/UPLC, CGE, UV/VIS, ELISA, Cell Cytotoxicity assays and/or other techniques. Along with testing samples, this position will conduct routine maintenance of mammalian cells. The candidate will perform equipment qualification, data management, review and revision of established protocols and SOPs. This position will require analytical and mathematical skills, organizational and time-management skills, verbal and written communication skills, plus ability to apply attention to detail. Experience in analytical method development and validation is a plus.

Job Responsibilities will include:
  • Perform testing of in-process, product, and/or research samples of protein-based therapeutics, such as measurement of concentration levels (ELISA/UV), high-performance/ultra-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC/UPLC), physical testing (Conductivity, pH, and Appearance) testing documentation.
  • Collaborates with others to develop assays based on new and existing methodologies.
  • Conduct maintenance of AD equipment and operations, including lab and equipment cleaning, minor equipment maintenance.
  • Perform routine maintenance of mammalian cells including, cell passaging, monitoring of antigen expression by flow cytometry, monitor culture for contamination etc.
  • Perform routine cytotoxicity assays of development samples.
  • Review analytical notebooks, data, and reports.
  • Communicate status, take action and drive improvement on key performance indicators.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and Right-First-Time execution.
  • As a part of the job requirements, the employee may be required to handle waste including hazardous waste. The employee must attend mandatory annual hazardous waste training meeting(s) and show a competency in that training by passing test(s) administered by the company or consultant providing such training.
  • Participate in analytical method development and validation as needed.
  • Actively monitor inventory stocks using Kanban system and order materials as needed.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 or more years relevant experience in GMP manufacturing or laboratory environment conducting protein assay methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique, required.
  • Cell culture experience is preferred.
  • Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem-solve and provide solutions to challenges.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain production schedule.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction and work under supervision.
  • Experience with operational excellence tools and methods, preferred.
  • Ability to understand and exercise basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability and interest working in a fast-paced, high-growth team environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40lb loads multiple times per shift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to stand, crouch, sit, bend, or stretch for extended periods of time.

Reporting Structure:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position reports to Team Lead, Analytical Development.
