Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to support and perform daily materials management related operations. The incumbent will work closely with materials management personnel and the Procurement Manager and will report to site Materials Manager. This is a hands-on position requiring execution of routine activities as well as non-routine planning.

Materials Management
  • Follow all cGMP regulations, company policies and procedures, employee handbook, and standards for conduct.
  • Perform receiving activities for all materials, supplies and equipment, as well as distribution of received materials to internal personnel as indicated by Purchase Orders or as requested by end users. Manage temperature-controlled storage units.
  • Notify procurement Manager when an asset item is received and affix the assigned asset numbered label to unit.
  • Stock laboratory supply areas, gowning areas and assure adequate levels of supplies are always available and organized.
  • Track warehouse inventory levels and notify Procurement and Materials Manager when the stock is low.
  • Replenish facility gases.
  • Verify weekly pickup of hazardous waste and retain waste tracking manifest for inspection.
  • Perform the shipment of goods and products using appropriate temperature management.
  • Perform temperature data downloads from shipment temperature monitor recorders.
  • Retain incoming and outgoing shipping documents.
  • Transport materials between Emergent San Diego buildings and offsite storage.
  • Provide support to other areas of the department as workloads increase or during employee absences.
  • Receive, label, stage & issue cGMP materials.
  • Adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Ensure assigned work areas are always maintained in a clean and audit-ready status.
  • Receive and distribute incoming and outgoing company mail.


Procurement/Purchasing
  • Assist with managing open purchase orders and obtaining and updating delivery dates in SAP.
  • Responsible for checking compressed gas and LN2 levels daily and report to Procurement.
  • Assist, and serve as back-up to, the Procurement Manager for placing/entering purchase orders in SAP.
  • Assist Procurement Manager in SAP Master Data tasks as directed.
  • Assist Procurement Manager in other Procurement/Purchasing responsibilities as directed.


Minimum Education, Experience and Skills

Education :
  • Associates' degree with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material handling, shipping, and receiving, inventory control and purchasing.
  • Cold chain experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous training and experience with hazardous material handling, DOT49 CFR172.704 & IATA Dangerous Goods regulations section 1.5 training.
  • Prior cGMP and pharmaceutical/biotech experience are preferred.

Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred.
  • Ability to learn and utilize multiple computerized systems for various processes (document management, quality management, learning management).
  • Possess a basic knowledge of EHS and Cal/OSHA practices and requirements.

Skills:
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction and possess a strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate superior work ethic and ability to work alone or in a group setting.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and coordinate workload by priority.
  • Must have a valid and current driver's license.
  • Must have prior ERP or other automated inventory system experience, SAP is preferred.
