SENIOR MANAGER, FACILITIES AND LAB SUPPORT

Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Facilities and Lab Support role is involved in all aspects of our Workplace and Facilities team but will be principally involved in our research laboratory operations support function. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Workplace & Facilities, they will be successful through their strategic ideas, strong hands-on execution and drive for customer service excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support a safe, effective and enjoyable work environment for all employees and visitors while providing a high level of customer service
  • Guide Facilities team members and supervise direct reports as assigned
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of office, laboratory and overall building operations
  • Coordinate and oversee contract service provider/vendor activities for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, etc.
  • Oversee installations of new and existing equipment to ensure availability and presence of required services, space, etc.
  • Oversee that laboratory equipment is in good working condition to include certification of hoods and equipment, freezers/refrigerators, pipettes, and balances with timely inspections/PM, calibrations and completion of required repairs to mitigate downtime
  • Maintaining inventory of commonly used lab supplies and gases
  • Manage chemical and biohazard waste collection in labs and coordinating their timely removal from site with required documentation and record retention
  • Maintain OSHA, NFPA as well as local safety and environmental regulatory compliance and security standards for proper chemical and waste storage
  • Maintain and update the physical and online MSDS library
  • Oversee proper handling and storage of chemical materials and hazardous agents
  • Generate or initiate through others the creation of purchase requests for common use laboratory consumables and services and Facilities goods and services
  • Support the receiving of incoming shipments in GBT's procurement system
  • Ensuring inspection readiness in partnership with EH&S
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures and best practices for lab services in partnership with EH&S and lab staff
  • Oversee lab equipment monitoring, device integrity and respond to alarms 24/7 as appropriate
  • Support Workers Comp related duties to include, incident investigations, reporting and required follow up in partnership with Human Resources
  • Participate on the EH&S/Safety Committee and partner with laboratory staff to proactively ensure compliance with state and local regulations
  • Support emergency response and life safety programs
  • Monthly inspections of safety showers, eyewash stations, First Aid cabinets, AED units and fire extinguishers
  • Support overall office operating needs around supply rooms, break rooms and conference rooms
  • Assist team with general company related activities, such as large event/meeting support and time sensitive requests


Qualifications:

  • Team player with a hands-on, can-do attitude, who is willing to respond to requests, or act on observations outside daily responsibilities to support the organization
  • Experience in a rapidly growing biotech organization with responsibility for creating solutions and processes
  • 5-8+ years of relevant experience in academic or research lab environment, and a BA/BS degree relevant to the role
  • Experience providing guidance to team members, including direct reports
  • Prefer I.A.T.A. and D.O.T. certification for shipping of hazardous materials and other EH&S related regulations, or training and certification will be required
  • Blood-borne pathogens 29 CFR 1910.1030 training preferred, or training will be required
  • Working knowledge of chemical safety information, and hazardous and medical waste storage
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills for quality communications with internal/external audiences
  • Possess the ability to explain complex technical information to persons unfamiliar with the subject
  • Will participate in education, training or other programs requiring oral presentations
  • Anticipates and identifies potential problems and collaborates with others on identifying and implementing solutions
  • Ability to facilitate formal meetings or group discussions
  • Has solid critical judgment and analytical skills
  • Strong PC (Word, Outlook, Excel) and keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Works well under pressure and able to meet deadlines
  • Able to operate and maintain lab mechanical equipment strongly preferred, e.g. autoclave
  • Works well independently, in a team or group environment
  • Resourceful at information gathering and is self-sufficient
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Support site response 24/7
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs
