MANAGER, R&D ACCOUNTING

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is an integral part of a growing accounting team and oversee the accounting of all R&D and commercial aspects of the Company's operations. This position currently reports directly to the Director of Accounting Operations but will partner extensively with Financial Planning & Analysis team to ensure thorough understanding of various initiatives and timely completion of tasks. A successful candidate is someone who is articulate, professional, and understands the ins and outs of wearing multiple hats at a growing organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Month-end closing task management and execution to ensure timely and accurate completion of the R&D and Commercial accrual tasks
  • Ensure accurate month-end close accruals for research and development and commercial
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries for key areas of responsibility including accruals, ensuring month-end close metrics are delivered with excellence
  • Support the completion of financial statement fluctuation analysis to summarize financial results for R&D and commercial related activity
  • General ledger account reconciliation preparation, review, and follow-up on open items
  • Liaise between accounting team members and R&D FP&A regarding the periodic activity under review and provide guidance on proper determination of U.S. GAAP expense recognition, accrual accuracy and disclosures
  • Support R&D and Commercial FP&A team on forecasting and budget planning
  • Support interim and year end audit process (internal and external)
  • Drive closure of any internal/ external audit points raised on a timely basis
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the accounting close process, enhance existing procedures and opportunities to improve the utilization of our financial system tools
  • Prepare and/or update standard operating procedures for assigned areas
  • Adherence to Sarbanes Oxley controls


Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 5 + years of experience in R&D area desired
  • Experience in Pharmaceuticals/ Biotechnology industry is a strong plus
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems especially NetSuite
  • An aptitude for learning and managing ERP data structures and reporting capabilities
  • Superior analytical and modeling skills including advanced proficiency in Excel and the ability to quickly manipulate and analyze large data sets and build reports
  • Strong work ethic including sound judgement, outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
  • Able to work with high volume of transactions in a fast-paced environment
  • Results and goal-oriented mindset with an opportunistic eye towards process improvements
  • Strong ability to prioritize and organize work effectively
  • Must be able to collaborate and communicate effectively
