Job Details

The Imaging Sciences group is seeking a creative, collaborative, detailed, and highly organized individual to help build and head a brand-new Preclinical Histology Core that will serve all therapeutic areas in Research. This core facility will use groundbreaking histotechnologies, automation, imaging instruments, and software platforms to provide full services for histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and in situ hybridization (ISH) experiments on non-human tissues. This facility will also develop novel methods to power exploratory research including highly multiplexed IHC/ISH staining techniques, 3D histology, and image data repositories to power quantitative analyses and machine learning data mining efforts.

We are looking for a candidate who will work closely with the group head and other members of the team to deliver high quality, meticulous, and unbiased experimental data, interpretations, and novel methods in support of Regeneron's diverse therapeutic programs.

In this role, a typical day may include:
• Independent execution of experiments planned in consultation with the histology group and other collaborating scientists and pathologists.
• Experimental animal tissue dissection & sample preparation; paraffin, cryo, and fresh frozen sectioning; histochemical, immunohistochemical, and in situ hybridization staining; and histological analysis of multiple animal models.
• Operation of robotics equipment including paraffin slide sectioning, histochemical and immunohistochemical staining, and imaging equipment.
• Handling small animals including euthanasia followed by intracardial perfusion and dissection for tissue harvesting.
• Development of histological techniques including antibody and probe validation, optimization across multiple tissue types, combined IHC/ISH protocols, quenching autofluorescence, multiplexed fluorescence RNAScope.
• Testing, integration, and support of new robotics technologies and assays to streamline and automate histological protocols.
• Lab operations including organization of materials and reagents required for studies and maintenance of histology equipment, as well as online and physical records of data
• Working closely with team members to coordinate multiple simultaneous experiments, troubleshoot experiments, accommodate changing priorities and timelines, and provide updates on the progress of projects.

This role may be for you if you have:
• Shown history of executing and accomplishing sophisticated histology experiments in a timely and independent manner
• Strong communication and social skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a larger project within a team-first environment
• A passion for biology and helping others and a dedication to share, collaborate, and lift up others
• Exceptional attention to detail, and due diligence in project execution.

To be considered for this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree in science and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's and 6 years of experience. We need candidates to have considerable experience in basic and sophisticated histological techniques such as cryo and paraffin sectioning, chromogenic and fluorescent immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Experience with vibratome or other specialized sectioning and staining is a plus. Experience with histological robotic equipment such as the Leica BOND Rx or Ventana Discovery Ultra, and with white light and fluorescence digital pathology slide scanners such as the Aperio AT2, Leica SCN400, Zeiss Axioscan is required. Individuals should have extensive knowledge of vertebrate anatomy. Experience with image analysis software such as HALO, FIJI, ImageJ, or otherwise is a plus.
