We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist with background in Cellular and/or Molecular Biology to join the AbbVie Virology team in North Chicago, IL. We are looking for a Scientist with experience in cell culture, as well as standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques. Experience in virology techniques is a plus. Above all, we are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a passion for research, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic working environment.

Key Responsibilities Includes:
  • Independently develop, run, analyze, and troubleshoot in vitro assays, such as cell-based activity assays, virus generation and propagation, and high throughput screening assays.
  • Use developed in vitro assays to evaluate and characterize novel therapeutic entities.
  • Demonstrate innovation, as well as strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Work collaboratively with matrixed project teams and members of the group to drive innovation and deliver novel therapies for patients.
  • Timely documentation of experiments and activities in electronic archive systems.
  • Engage colleagues in cross-disciplinary scientific discussion, and present data to the team.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • Bachelor or master's degree in Cell and/or Molecular Biology, or related field
  • 3-5+ (BS) or 0-2+ (MS) years of academic or industry experience
  • Extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture/ transfection is required.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of molecular biology and immunology techniques (e.g. molecular cloning, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, site-directed mutagenesis, cell proliferation/cytotoxicity assays) is required.
  • Experience in virology laboratory techniques (e.g. virus generation and propagation, anti-viral screening assays) is a plus.
  • Experience in working in a BSL2/3 facility is preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to design experiments and think independently.
  • Strong communication and organization skills, especially the ability to work across multiple scientific disciplines and functions.
