Position Summary

The primary focus for this position is mammalian cell culture (both adherent and suspension cells), including cells freeze and thaw, media preparation, cell maintenance and passaging, scale up and bioreactor operation, transfection or infection, and cell harvest. The Associate will also assist purification and ultrafiltration/diafiltration processes. Documentation of these activities is also required, including recording in lab notebooks, draft SOPs and batch records, writing development reports. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced team environment and be able to learn new skills quickly.

Essential Functions

  • Key team member for clinical GMP production in San Diego
  • Coordinate with functional areas to ensure production and development timelines are met
  • Procurement of GMP and development materials
  • Write technical reports, SOPs and Batch Records
  • Support process development by planning and leading project specific studies, including DOEs
  • Evaluate, develop and optimize process parameters for adherent and
  • Analyze, organize and present data for team and company presentations
  • Support technology transfer of campaigns to commercial manufacturing sites
  • Organization and maintenance of GMP facility and development labs
  • Perform bioreactor operation and process development for mammalian suspension cells.
  • Write technical reports and tech transfer reports, draft SOPs and batch records.
  • Design and execute studies to optimize viral and virus like particle vaccine production yields and stability
  • Optimize mammalian cell culture in 10L to 200L bioreactor. Evaluate, develop and optimize the process parameters for mammalian cell culture.
  • Use DOE software to design the experiment and analyze the results.


Minimum Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelors of Science/engineering in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. Master degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years' relevant industry experience in mammalian cell culture (adherent and suspension cells) and bioreactor operations (small scale and large scale).
  • Aseptic technique, cell culture and bioreactor experience are required
  • cGMP experience preferred
  • Chromatography Purification and UF/DF experience are preferred
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Good writing skills and communication skills.
  • cGMP experience is preferred.
