Clinical Operations is an organization committed to the strategic execution of clinical studies in support of Gilead's clinical development programs. Technology and Innovation is part of Clinical Operations and is focused on human centered, technology enabled therapeutic development supporting Gilead's Development andTherapeutic Areasfrom Phase I-IV. The team works with our many internal and external partners to develop solutions through digital technology, human centered design, patient experience and data science.

The Position

Health Data Scientist position will work closely with the Director of Technology and Innovation on projects related to designing and transforming the patient experience in clinical trials. They will utilize human centered design methodologies to support the development of digital health technology infrastructure, digital assets, and data science infrastructure, to deliver on the digital transformation objectives for global development and clinical operations. They will need to be creative and progressive with design, development and implementation. They will prepare and deliver a presentation based on an agreed upon project topic at the end of the internship.

Job Responsibilities may include the following tasks:
  • Ideal candidate will have interest and academic background in data science, information systems or computer sciences and health data mining
  • Work within a team to identify, explore, test and validate solutions aligned with the innovation roadmap
  • Work will include, but will not be limited to conducting proof of concepts in an agile setting using real world data and device generated data
  • Partner with a team of developers, designers, project managers, and other personnel to develop and create novel solutions to unsolved problems
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders across therapeutic areas and technical teams
  • Research, monitor and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend long-term mobile options for speed and value
  • Knowledge of iOS frameworks is desirable (Core Data, Core Graphics, Core Animation, Core Graphics and Core Text etc.) and programming tools (Xcode, Git, etc.)
  • Understanding of how to consume Server-side RESTFul services
  • Proficient in Python or other coding language
  • Experience with deep learning platforms a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required

  • Summer Intern at least 18 years old
  • Undergraduate enrolled in a 4-year accredited university/college; including enrollment in Fall Semester after internship
  • Related Majors to Technology and Innovation: Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related STEM major
  • Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and September
  • Please note, no relocation is available for this position. The position will be remote, located in Denver, CO or Foster City, CA
