Based at the global corporate headquarters in Foster City, the Head of Corporate Finance reports to the SVP FP&A and is a key member of the FP&A Leadership Team. Right hand person to the SVP FP&A and CFO in helping communicate the corporate story and support senior level presentations and analysis. The Head of Corporate Finance will work across Finance teams to manage processes, work on spend targets, coordinate and understand the business, communicate the story to senior leadership and drive implementation of enterprise Finance wide initiatives and directives.

This position has the mandate to design and build a more strategic, systematized and process-oriented approach to FP&A, budgeting & forecasting, management reporting, decision support analytics and performance management. The role requires working collaboratively with Finance leadership teams to design and co-deliver the necessary financial analysis and reporting to effectively manage the global Gilead business and establish cadence and governance around that analysis and reporting.

The primary responsibility of the role will be to facilitate the delivery of the financial commitments of the company through world class performance management processes, systems and capabilities. Drive the ongoing process improvements to continually enhance the FP&A infrastructure, standardize the management reporting, and drive more robust forecasting metrics, processes and tools across the FP&A organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate consolidation, reporting and processes
  • Consolidate and report the Commercial WW Revenue during close / forecast cycles
  • Consolidate and report our WW Corporate Expenses during close / forecast cycles
  • Manage standardized reports (Local / Regional / Global) - Revenue tracker, Operating Expense (by Function) and Contribution margin reports
  • Manage global LE / LRP forecast planning cycle timeline and processes
  • Partner with Corporate Development to support the modeling, accounting and reporting of transactions, including M&A, licensing and other strategic transactions
  • Manage and continuously improve the internal management reporting process in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with the accounting close process and other key reporting deadlines. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to management. Meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Support commercial finance lead with global analytics, engage with regional affiliates and manage consolidation of financials during the close and forecast process

  • Generate insights for executive management to effectively prioritize and allocate resources across the company to consistently achieve financial goals.
  • Push analytical rigor in thinking and decision making.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards that most effectively measure results and identify and implement actions to continuously improve performance and understanding of business drivers.

BOD and Executive Financial analysis and reporting
  • Drive the Corporate Financial Targets process and recommendations
  • Delivering the BOD FP&A content and presentations
  • Partner with IR to provide input to Earnings Call themes and messages

Center of Excellence
  • Continue to evolve our tools, technology and processes
  • Drive best known practices across FP&A team to maximize the impact of reporting on business decisions
  • Establish best-in-class global processes and policies that improve the operational effectiveness of the company. Work with IT and other stakeholders to improve data quality and accessibility. Lead and continuously improve critical financial processes (budget, long range plan, forecasting and management reporting).
  • Drive automation of FP&A reporting, automate repetitive tasks and increase use of visualization dashboards
  • Develop and implement global standards
  • Ensure compliance with Finance policies and procedures

General & Administrative
  • Lead Financial Planning and Analysis team supporting the G&A functions (HR, Finance, Legal, IT, Public, Govt. Affairs etc.)
  • Be a strategic thought partner to members of the Gilead leadership team leading the G&A functions and work towards optimize the spend while delivering their corporate goals
  • Partner with other CFO Org teams on key strategic initiatives, including IT Spend Optimization, Shared Services cost optimization and other

Data Strategy and Governance
  • Responsible for Data Strategy implementation - the proposed changes to our systems to ensure we optimize our data structure and reporting capabilities
  • Lead Data Governance and Mastering - after we establish a new structure for our data and expense tracking/reporting, manage the on-going management of data to ensure we maintain data and reporting integrity over time

Assist with M&A Finance diligence as requested and integrate into planning & reporting processes

Candidate Profile

The candidate is a metrics-driven leader with proven analytical abilities. Ideally, this executive will have hands-on experience designing, transforming, and leading the corporate financial planning & analysis Function within a highly matrixed and global company. This is a role with a significant level of exposure to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including in-depth experience preparing Board-level presentations and communications. This executive will also exhibit the ability to handle detailed, complex concepts and problems requiring timely decisions using sound judgment. The ideal candidate will have the ability to take perceived complex issues and boil them down into concise, easy to understand analysis to support business decisions.

The requirements:
  • Successful track record within a rapidly growing company experiencing transformation
  • Experience using innovative information technology as it applies to finance to drive performance and productivity enhancements. Is digitally savvy with the ability to recognize and act on evolving technology trends impacting the business.
  • Proven history of implanting best practices around management reporting systems and processes into normal operations of the team. Prior experience in a leadership role in large-scale change programs preferred. Transformational leader who can adjust their style to accommodate individuals and the various phases of growth.
  • History of building relationships at all levels of an organization, including at the senior leadership team level and with the operating and corporate team members, with superior communication and influencing skills

  • Pharma experience in Corporate, Commercial and /or R&D Finance roles and M&A experience preferred
