Job Summary

The Research Associate I or II, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is responsible for daily maintenance and operation of Core Technologys next generation sequencers. They will perform standard library preparations with the use of liquid handling robots and assist team members with manual library preparation according to standard protocols. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining stock levels of standard sequencing supplies and reagents.

  • Run and maintain next generation sequencers including MiSeq and NextSeq machines
  • Perform routine washes
  • Denature, dilute, and load sequencing library samples
  • Use liquid handling equipment to perform sequencing library preparations
  • Perform oligo capture, RNA-seq and other standard sequencing protocols
  • Quantitate sequencing libraries using qPCR and Agilent Bioanalyzer or similar
  • Monitor stock levels of sequencing supplies and reagents and reorder stock as needed

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Required:
  • BS degree in related field with 1+ years of next generation sequencing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with sequencing library set-up (manual and automated), Bioanalyzer or Tapestation fragment sizing, and qPCR quantitation
  • Experience with Illumina sequencer operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of Word processing software; Excel spreadsheet software, PowerPoint, and DNA sequence analysis software
