We are seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist to join the Drug Discovery Science & Technology organization. This individual will provide dedicated support to the Biologics Drug Biology group by developing strategic vision for their team and planning, supervising and conducting in vitro and ex vivo studies to elucidate the biology of both novel targets and novel therapeutics and establishing antibody discovery screening assays. The selected candidate will be part of an exciting and fast-paced team, working on drug discovery with internal and external cross-functional groups from different therapeutic areas including metabolic diseases, immunology, oncology and aging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop strategic vision, provide scientific leadership and technical guidance to build a robust panel of in vitro assays to support the discovery, screening, and characterization of novel biologics.
  • Plan and execute in vivo and ex vivo experiments to characterize biologics with novel mechanisms of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a principle investigator, generating original technical ideas and research strategies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of highly motivated and gifted scientists.
  • Process animal tissues and execution of downstream ex vivo analyses including qPCR, WB, IHC, ELISA and FACS.
  • Use multiple techniques to study in vivo distribution of novel biologics, target expression and engagement.
  • The individual will be fully integrated into several project teams and accountable for the prosecution of project activities leading to team success.

Qualifications
  • BS in Biology or related field with typically 12 - 14+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 10 - 12+ years of experience; PhD with typically 4 - 6+ years of experience in metabolic diseases, immunology, oncology, aging or related area of discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with mammal cell culture techniques, sterile tissue processing, primary cell isolation and handling.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of molecular biology and immunology techniques (qPCR, WB, IHC, ELISA, FACS) for characterization of different aspects of cell biology and a willingness to adopt new skills as needed
  • Expertise in rodent handling, multiple dosing, physical evaluation and measurement techniques, blood collection, small surgery, in vivo imaging, necropsy, tissue collection and processing for various downstream applications.
  • Experience with different imaging techniques and image analysis is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and troubleshoot experiments to generate reliable and reproducible data in timely manner.
  • Demonstrate creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult technical problems and champion new technologies to achieve project goals.
  • Experienced and demonstrated success as primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organization skills, ability to work in a demanding and intellectually challenging environment, teamwork across multiple scientific disciplines and functions
