The Director, Supply Chain Management (Americas) is responsible for direction, strategy, planning and execution for the Americas (ie, US, Canada; in the future, possibly also Latin America) supply chain operations in line with the strategy established at Global level. This position oversees the sourcing and logistics for Santen products for and from Americas including developing and establishing required organization, systems, processes and procedure. The position reports to the Head of Global Supply Chain at Santen, based in Switzerland.

  • Responsibility for strategic and operational management of the Supply Chain Management in Americas, from planning through sourcing, until distribution to the 3PL warehouse, at a later stage potentially until distribution to customers
  • Interacting with Executive Team members, participate in developing and executing company strategy and managing business to achieve company’s short and long term goals
  • Manage product supply in a cost efficient manner meeting KPI’s including those developed by GSCM, maintaining reliable supply and enabling timely and successful product launches
  • Partner with executive management and functional heads in driving Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process in Americas, according to the global standards
  • Drive continuous improvement of Supply Chain Management implementing PDCA cycle and other continuous improvement (CI) principles for Americas organization
  • Prepare, monitor and control Supply Chain Management budget for Americas
  • Responsibility for management, development and mentoring of direct reports in Supply Chain Management Organization
  • Represent SCM in launch projects and business development projects
  • Perform other duties as necessary as assigned by management

  • Master’s Degree in Life Sciences or Business Administration is required, with a minimum of ten (10) years Pharmaceutical or other relevant industry experience to include, but not limited to manufacturing, in a global environment
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in global supply chain management (including distribution) in pharmaceutical or other relevant industry; experience in new product launches is strongly preferred
  • APICS certification
  • Deep understanding and relevant experience in supply, logistics and distribution in US (mandatory); ideally also in Canada and for major Latin American markets
  • Successful experience building up transport, storage and distribution networks with Third Party Logistics Providers
  • Solid understanding of GDP requirements, including serialization (FDA)
  • Experience in planning (demand and supply) and participating in S&OP processes
  • Experience operating and communicating at the senior and executive levels internally and externally and managing interdepartmental processes.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems required
  • Proven track record of demonstrated thought leadership in negotiation, management and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of market trends; ability to use market data to define organizational direction; ability to anticipate and respond to market challenges
  • Proven ability to manage the process of product supply and source of risk in end-to-end supply chain
  • Proven expertise in setting team expectations and clarifying roles and responsibilities in rapidly changing environments
  • Successful collaboration in a leadership capacity with cross-functional global teams
  • Cross-Cultural Resourcefulness-Ability and Agility to work in a complex matrix environment whilst respecting cultural differences
