The Executive Medical Director, Medical Affairs leads the development and execution of a consolidated US Medical Affairs strategy; ensures accurate, robust and appropriate medical/scientific exchange with different US and Global, internal and external stakeholders; and partners cross functionally to drive success and patient best management.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the US Medical strategy and tactical execution for our SMA therapeutic area.
  • Partner with the cross-functional product team, which develops integrated product strategy.
  • Co-develop and drive execution of strategically aligned data generation plans based on identified data gaps with Global Medical and HEOR/RWE.
  • Establish and lead appropriate medical team(s) that co-develop tactics aligned with product strategies while ensuring excellence in execution.
  • Works closely with other medical functions on implementation of Medical Affairs activities, including but not limited to:
    • Publications and presentations (whether targeted to specific individuals, institutions, or at congresses) to:
    • Ensure the proper capture, interpretation, and analysis of external insights
    • Address any scientific decision support needs from inquiries coming into Novartis Gene Therapies.
  • Provides input into National engagement plans with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other key external stakeholders in alignment with the US Medical Affairs plan.
  • Maintains in-depth understanding of the disease state, product, competitors, marketplace, related medical areas, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Acts as the highest scientific matter expert for the US external and internal stakeholders.
  • Captures and provides timely insights on emerging clinical / scientific trends back to the organization.
  • Actively contributes to the execution of the company's strategy at scientific meetings in support of RMD meeting/booth coverage and KOL meetings.
  • Provides medical/scientific input into Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), disease models, epidemiological studies, market research, and real-world study proposals.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • M.D. with minimum 8 years' industry experience, preferably in Medical Affairs.
  • Experience working in rare or orphan disease space is a plus.
  • Neurology, Neurodegenerative disease and/or pediatric specialty experience, preferred.
  • Experience with Payer organizations preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis, synthesis, presentations a must.
  • Experience interacting with other providers (HCPs), opinion leaders (KOLs), and researchers (PIs).
  • Overall strong ability to understand the disease state, mechanism of action, value proposition - both from an absolute and relative/competitive standpoint.
  • Strong speaking and presentations skills (i.e. gravitas) to ensure trustful and authoritative interactions with all stakeholders sets (KOLs, payers, patients, patient advocacy groups, etc.).
  • Clear understanding of the Pharma industry environment and ability to build and create a strong strategic plan in collaboration with the Global Medical team and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work comfortably within a cross-functional and matrix environment.
  • Travel up to 30% required.
