AbbVie has established the Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC) in Cambridge, MA to investigate the fundamental biological mechanisms and to develop therapeutic interventions for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). AbbVie scientists are using this understanding of disease processes along with state-of-the-art technologies to develop transformative treatment options for patients.

The Tau Pathobiology group is seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in the area of molecular and cellular neuroscience. The scientist will team up with his/her supervisor to accelerate tau-associated target/biomarker discovery program at AbbVie. The scientist will develop and conduct biochemical, transcriptomic and imaging-based assays of tauopathy models for target/biomarker identification and validation.

  • Advance tau target/biomarker discovery program at AbbVie
  • Read scientific literature and apply relevant techniques
  • Develop neuronal/synapse toxicity measurement assays for genetic screening of in vitro tau pathology models
  • Support establishing transcriptomics pipelines to evaluate tau associated transcriptomic changes in in vivo tau pathology models and AD brain tissues
  • Design, perform and analyze target validation experiments
  • Work efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Build therapeutic hypothesis based on scientific finding
  • Write SOPs, maintain detailed electronic notebook, and present at team meetings
  • Become a part of highly dynamic and collaborative culture

  • BS, MS or PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology with 7+(BS), 5+ (MS) or 0+ (PhD) years of experience
  • Scientific background in synapse biology, cell biology, or neurodegeneration
  • Proficiency with standard molecular, cellular, biochemical techniques
  • Experience in neuronal cell culture (mouse primary or human iPSC-derived)
  • Experience in brain tissue handling (mouse or human)
  • Experience in neuronal tau pathology models in vitro and in vivo
  • Experience with immunostaining and fluorescence imaging techniques
  • Experience in single cell or spatial transcriptomics techniques
  • Proficiency in computational quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Passion for therapeutic discovery science and desire to learn to novel techniques
