Job Details
As an R&D Specialist, a typical day may include the following:
- Sectioning of human tissue samples (biopsy & resected tumors)
- Conduct manual and automated staining of single and/or multiple tissue markers
- Use microscope and/or slide scanners to acquire digital image data
- Visualization and analysis of digital image data using different software tools
- Development, evaluation, validation, implementation and testing of new histology assays (chromogenic & fluorescent) and innovative technologies for tissue analysis
- Effective communication and presentation of results
- Training others in the company in histology and imaging techniques
- Maintain lab supplies, lab equipment, and help with lab organization within a team environment
This role may be for you if:
- You have proven experience and excellent knowledge of histological techniques for single, multi- and hyperplex tissue processing and analysis including chromogenic/fluorescent immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
- You have extensive hands-on experience in sectioning of cryo and FFPE tissue samples (biopsy & resected tumors)
- You have experience with automated tissue staining (e.g. Leica Bond & Ventana Discovery Ultra) and microscopic imaging devices (e.g. Leica Aperio & Zeiss AxioScan)
To be considered for this position, you must have at least a Bachelor's degree/ Associate's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field with a minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience in the field of histology. We are seeking an individual with previous experience in assay development and a desire to learn new technologies. In addition, good computer skills are required and basic knowledge in image analysis (e.g. Definiens, Visiopharm or Indica Labs) as well as cancer research and immuno-oncology is a plus. The successful candidate's responsibilities will cover many aspects of our current workflow with the potential to expand their skill set, learn new techniques and expand their role within the group.
