Job Details

This fellowship program will provide the fellow with practical insight into the roles and responsibilities in the Medical Affairs department within the pharmaceutical industry.

The fellow will gain an in-depth experience in medical information and communications, scientific communications and publications, and health economics outcomes research (HEOR). Fellow will be expected, as part of the Medical Affairs team member, to provide support in the development and execution of a broad range of Medical Affairs activities, including to serve patients and care communities through evidence generation and scientific exchange. Fellow will be expected, as part of the Medical Affairs team member, to provide scientific support for clinical stage pipeline development and post-market support for approved drugs. The fellow will work independently and/or with a Medical Affairs team member on various projects. Efforts will be made to account for the interests of the fellow when developing their individual program.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Ability to develop scientifically fair and balanced medical response letters to address unsolicited medical inquires
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance pertinent to medical affairs including those that address medical information, and interactions with HCPs promotional review
  • Understanding of roles and functions of medical, legal, and regulatory department stakeholders by participating in scientific and promotional review committees
  • Be able to describe various areas within the Pharma Industry - especially in Medical Affairs including field roles (Medical Science Liaisons [MSLs])
  • Experience in the operational aspects of Medical Affairs
  • Develop and expand professional network and holistic understanding of the pharma industry through interactions with cross-functional teams
  • Refine communications skills (both verbal and written) and project management skills

Education/ Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (minimum at the start of fellowship) in a health-care discipline or basic science (i.e. PharmD, PhD, etc.)
  • Education in psychiatry/neurology therapeutic area preferred.
  • Personal leadership, accountability, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of literature searching databases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth literature research, analysis and interpretation of medical data.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to perform multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Unofficial school transcripts (optional)
  • Two letters of recommendations (optional)


Physical Requirements:

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and frequent walking. Daily use of a computer, phone, office equipment and other computing and digital devices is required. May be required to stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel may be necessary, so the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver's license and/or effectively navigate public transportation is required. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee must be able to read and respond to interoffice communications as well as effectively participate in meetings. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to lift up to 20 lbs., pull, push, carry, handle or feel. The employee is required to carry, handle items, reach with arms and hands, to stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Mental demands may require prolonged concentration, reading comprehension, understanding and interpretation of concepts, ideas and philosophies. The physical demands of the position described herein are essential functions of the job and employees must be able to successfully perform these tasks for extended periods.
