Application Scientist

JSR Life Sciences is committed to the advancement of human health by improving the probability of success, decreasing timelines, and increasing the efficacy of innovative therapies.  As an applications scientist, you will work with a diverse team of individuals to help biopharmaceutical customers optimize and troubleshoot downstream issues at all phases of development and manufacturing.  We also value innovation and help to develop new products and technologies including devices.  Protein purification at large and small scale is at the core of what this team does, but it provides the opportunity to interact with applications, sales, marketing and R&D teams globally.  The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of the AKTAvant, purification process development, and analytical methods such as ELISA and HPLC systems.  Associated activities in the role are basic instrument care, experimental design, buffer preparation, reagent ordering, data analysis, report and presentation preparation, and safety.

ABOUT YOU
BS/MS/PhD in Biology/Biochemistry/Chemistry/Engineering or related experience in bioprocess technology is desirable
2+ years of experience in working with bioprocess technology products and laboratory protein purification techniques
Working knowledge of protein purification
Hands on experience running the GE AKTA systems
Experience running analytical tests
Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Strong data analysis skills, interpretation of results, ability to contribute significantly to the design of follow-up experiments, and ability to effectively communicate results to customers and internal audiences.
Ability to write and present complex materials for internal and external purposes
Typically requires a minimum of 2-6 years of related experience. At this level, graduate coursework may be desirable.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Application support as part of JSR Life Sciences team. Work with other application scientist to support sales and management to meet customer needs.
Provide technical support to resolve customer issues
Support technical marketing activities and projects
Help execute small and large-scale bioprocess experiments at both internal and external (customer) laboratories and facilities
Provide reports and data, help prepare scientific presentations on protein purification
Generate, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner.
Travel domestically and internationally for on-site customer application and product support and meetings
Assist sales staff and interact with R&D to assess potential application of company products to meet customer needs through product development and experimentation in the applications laboratory.
Participate in departmental and team meetings including teams in Japan and Europe (Morning and evening meetings)
Promote customer satisfaction by providing product and application support, answering inquires, investigating and escalating complains and taking appropriate actions
Assist the manager in maintaining and improving the applications laboratory.
Perform general laboratory maintenance such as making buffers, etc.
Make suggestions to management for improving this position or improving work processes.
Work safely by observing safety rules, policies and procedures. Identify unsafe conditions or actions.
Other duties as may be assigned.
