Purpose:

This position provides medical/scientific strategic and operational input into core medical affairs activities such as health-care professional engagement, generation of clinical and scientific data, and scientific education and exchange initiatives. It works closely with clinical development, publications, HEOR, Market Access and Commercial teams across global, area and affiliates to ensure cross-functional alignment and execution of core brand strategies and medical affairs plans. As part of the Global Medical Affairs Dermatology team this position will have a core focus on cross-dermatology scientific exchange and educational activities as well as pipeline disease areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of global brand plans and medical functional plans for the on market dermatology portfolio as well as pipeline assets.
  • Support medical core components of brand plans, including integrated gap assessments, evidence plans, and scientific platforms.
  • Leadsthe development and execution of the Medical Education and Scientific Exchange Activities, Advisory Boards, and EE Engagement Plans.
  • Lead and execute global congress plans including educational symposia, scientific/medical booths and scientific CI/insights.
  • Align Medical education and scientific initiatives with Sci Comm Platform and multichannel capabilities.
  • Lead activities related to the generation of data supporting scientific and business strategy. May be responsible for direction and planning of phase IIIb/IV studies, registry studies, database and exploratory data analysies
  • Engage in product/indication specific exploratory analysis of existing data sources (both internal and external) to develop insights on optimization of therapy, improved clinical outcomes, enhanced value proposition, and new insights into disease pathophysiology. Share insights with appropriate stakeholders and integrate into global publication and strategic plans
  • Develop product/indication specific training materials and ensure it is current, comprehensive, and accurate. Serve as key educator for internal Abbvie team.
  • Engage with global and regional EE to share our data as appropriate. Interact with professional societies to share data and facilitate the evolution of standard of care
  • Inform Investigator Initiated Study (IIS) strategy and contribute to assessment of IIS and Affiliate study proposals
  • Interact with and coordinate appropriate scientific and medical activities with internal stakeholders (i.e. commercial, clinical operations, discovery, statistics, regulatory, etc...) as they relate to on-going medical affairs projects.
  • Keep abreast of professional information and technology through conferences and/or medical literature and act as a Derm therapeutic area resource.
  • Responsible for performing the accurate and detailed medical review of advertising and promotional materials for assigned therapeutic area(s).
  • Responsible to manage budget for assigned projects.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree PhD, PharmD, MD highly preferred. Residency or additional post doctorate experience is an added value.
  • Typically 8 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent; substantial understanding of dermatology therapeutic area required.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory requirements governing clinical trials and experience in the design of protocols is valuable
  • Ability to interact with external experts and build rapport is important . Interactions frequently require the ability to gain cooperation of others and work as part of a cross-functional team
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Will frequently conduct presentations of scientific and strategic information.
