The Director, Business Development and Alliance Management reports directly to the VP of Business Development and Alliance Management and will play a critical role in strategic planning, new business development and alliance management. The incumbent will lead external search and evaluation efforts in support of cell and gene therapy as well as lead certain in and out licensing efforts. Additionally, the incumbent will lead certain alliance management efforts and serve as the primary point of contact for certain partners.

  • Work with the head of Business Development to refine the business development strategy as well as identify target companies to pursue partnering opportunities compatible with the companys strategic vision and corporate strategy
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communication with partners and internal stakeholders
  • Partner with Legal to negotiate term sheets, agreements, amendments to existing contracts and ancillary agreements
  • Organize, plan and participate in business meetings, industry conferences and events, representing the company
  • Work with a cross-functional team to organize scientific, technical and product due diligence to support potential partnerships and business development discussions
  • Lead new alliance launches and manage existing alliances
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of certain alliance contracts and ensure adherence to our obligations; ensure that the internal team is aware of contractual obligations and timelines and monitor performance against terms and conditions
  • Ensure that the partner is adhering to their obligations, including generation of scientific data, resourcing, finances, timelines, reports and information-sharing, disclosures and decision-making; serve as first line for conflict resolution and mediation
  • Coordinate with partners and the Precision BioSciences Communications team regarding external communication plans and ensure critical information is shared in a timely manner
  • Foster development of a collaborative organizational culture

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Required:
  • Bachelors degree in life sciences or related field
  • 12+ years of relevant industry experience in biotech and/or pharma
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communications skills
  • Proven success facilitating decision-making among senior management
  • High sensitivity to, experience working with, and ability to manage, cross-cultural differences
  • (personally, organizationally, culturally)
  • Strong ability to relate effectively across corporate hierarchy and functional areas
  • Ability to coordinate, interact with, and build alignment among multiple parties/functions/ groups
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential conversations; respond effectively to inquiries and complaints

Preferred:
  • Graduate degree in life sciences or related field or MBA
  • Biologics product development and/or commercialization experience

Travel Requirements
  • There is no travel required for the duration of the pandemic; however, this position is anticipated to require moderate to significant travel upon resolution of the pandemic in accordance with company safety guidelines and policies.

Location
  • This is a primarily office-based position associated with the main headquarters in downtown Durham, NC. For the time being, this role will be able to function remotely in accordance with company safety guidelines throughout the duration of the pandemic but is subject to change as needed.
