Job Details

Our Mission: Developing curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.

At Intellia, we are committed to solving the complex challenges of making CRISPR/Cas9-based medicines a reality for patients suffering from genetic diseases and to create novel engineered cell therapies for immuno-oncological and autoimmune diseases.

Job Description:

Intellia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist to join our team. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to design and develop lipid nanoparticles, execute routine and advanced characterization, for developing mechanistic insights related to lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mediated RNA delivery. The candidate will be responsible to optimize existing analytical methods, develop new analytical assays and formulation processes, generate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test method documents. As a part of routine work the candidate will plan and conduct experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues to support project goals, acquire and analyze respective data to inform decision making, trouble-shoot experiments and instrumentation to reach desired goals. The candidate will communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners; operate and maintain multiple laboratory instruments; assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality, including lab equipment maintenance, ordering, and receiving of lab supplies.

Responsibilities:
  • Formulation and characterization of LNP and nanoparticle delivery systems
  • Characterize LNPs using advanced characterization techniques (UPLC, LC-MS, DLS, etc.)
  • Extensive experience with UPLC/HPLC-based analytics and experience developing and running routine assays and novel assay development
  • Experience in characterizing and developing novel drug delivery systems for nucleic acids, proteins, or small molecules
  • Able to develop and implement SOPs for novel analytical methods
  • Experience with preparation of nanoparticle-based formulations at different scales sufficient to support in vitro and in vivo studies (rodents).
  • Leverage findings to drive rational design of next gen delivery platform
  • Conduct experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues in support of project goals
  • Design, implement, troubleshoot and modify experiments to reach desired goals
  • Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners
  • Operate and maintain multiple laboratory instruments
  • Assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality, including lab equipment maintenance and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials or Pharmaceutical Sciences with 0-2 years of industry experience OR M.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials or Pharmaceutical Sciences with 5-7 years of relevant industry experience
  • A strong background in nanoparticle characterization / material characterization/ chromatography / spectroscopy / drug development is highly desired
  • Strong understanding of nanoparticle-mediated delivery (current challenges and barriers to efficacy particularly in vivo ) and previous experience with formulation and characterization.
  • Analytical experience with chromatography is a must additional experience with Mass spectrometry is a plus.
  • Broad skillset that enables communication across multiple disciplines (biology, chemistry, materials, physics, etc.)

Company

Many of us pursuing work in the biotechnology industry are inspired by a loved one who is living with a disease or the loss of someone in our community. Rare genetic and oncological and immunological diseases not only affect the people living with often debilitating and life-threatening symptoms, but these disorders also significantly impact their families, friends and caregivers.

Our researchers work tirelessly to harness the genome editing technology CRISPR/Cas9 for human therapeutic use. Jennifer Doudna, an Intellia co-founder, and Emmanuelle Charpentier were awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their pioneering work in CRISPR. We at Intellia are humbled to have a hand in making what we believe to be medical history. As a leader in this space, we take this responsibility to patients seriously.

We are employing a modular genome editing platform to create diverse in vivo and ex vivo pipelines, spanning a range of therapeutic indications. Guided by this full-spectrum approach, we are committed to making CRISPR/Cas9-based medicines a reality for patients suffering from genetic diseases and to creating novel engineered cell therapies for various cancers and autoimmune diseases.
