Gilead Sciences, Inc. is continuing to hire for all open roles. Our interview process may be conducted virtually, and some roles will be asked to temporarily work from home. The Strategy and Business Operations (SBO) team within the Corporate Operations group is responsible for developing and monitoring the forward-looking strategy for Corporate Operations as well as maintaining a suite of core business operations assets that collectively serve as a foundation for achieving high performance as an organization.

The SBO team, reporting directly to the SVP of Operations, serves as an internal strategy consulting arm for the group. The team leverages an emergent strategic planning process aimed at identifying and addressing long term aspirations, core focus areas, and success measures. By engaging a diverse pool of information sources and key stakeholders, the team strives to deliver a product that is both technically sound and organizationally viable. Typical approaches include gathering market intelligence, performing retrospective analysis, interviewing stakeholders, and aligning strategies cross-functionally. The output of the process ultimately shows up as an integrated plan for developing the requisite organizational capabilities and includes a deliberate change management focus (in partnership with Communications and Change Management lead) to ensure robust adoption within the group.

SBO is also responsible for facilitating the annual business cycle within Corporate Operations, including management of several internal business processes/assets. Key deliverables include the Corporate Operations Playbook which is refreshed yearly, the latest estimate (LE) which is updated semi-annually, and the Operations Analytics Report issued on a quarterly basis. SBO is also responsible for generating the framework and messaging for key executive forums (business reviews, board presentations, leadership team meetings, etc.)

Description:

The Gilead Sciences SBO MBA Internship Program is for first year MBA students seeking entry into biotech by providing an internship opportunity within an Operations function of Gilead Sciences. Interns will participate in a 10-12-week program, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the business and gain functional experience. Participants will also learn more about full-time opportunities that they may be qualified for after graduation. This internship would normally be based in Foster City, California; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 internships may be virtual. **Please note, no relocation is available for this position.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Bring your analytical and technical skills to bear on one high impact Operations project
  • You are encouraged to apply if the following example research projects are of interest to you
  • External Crowd Sourcing of Solutions using Kaggle
  • Internal Crowd Sourcing of Solutions using something like Spigit Innovation Software
  • Explore applications of APIs in Operations
  • Build a pilot application for Operations in the MSFT PowerApps platform
  • Build a pilot automation for Operations in the MSFT PowerAutomate platform
  • Lead the integration of a sub-team's data into the Gilead Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Drive the transition of our SBO on-prem data lab into the cloud

Candidate Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years old
  • 1st year MBA student at an accredited university/college
  • Able to dedicate 40 hours per week to the program during the 10-12 weeks of the internship
  • Passionate about emerging technology and the future of digital applications
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as SQL, Python, R, etc. is a plus
  • Familiarity with relational databases is a plus
  • Familiarity with Tableau is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop cross-functional relationships
  • Energetic, organized, independent and a self-starter
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products
