Job Description:
As Assistant General Counsel - R&D (Director) you will primarily be responsible for providing legal support to Ipsen's R&D team that is charged with delivering and growing Ipsen's pipeline in all therapeutic areas, optimizing Ipsen's relationships with vendors and partners while actively supporting the R&D transformation and Ipsen's growth. As a business partner, you will support R&D stakeholders in their operations and/or transactions from research & discovery to phase 4 clinical trials, advise and train R&D and business partners on how to manage the legal risks associated to the R&D activities as well as support the newly created clinical contract management department and any other initiatives arising from Ipsen transformation. Although the function will support the global R&D organization across therapeutic areas and contribute to the development of the R&D best in class development model, the preliminary focus of this function is to support R&D matters that are led from the US (i.e. Oncology TA and any US R&D related activities when relevant) and US Global Medical Affairs.
Your role will involve:
- Provision of general legal advice as needed to the Global R&D organization.
- Proactive monitoring and information to stakeholders of relevant changes to local legislation or local requirements, and training as needed.
- Flagging high-risk areas and ensure raising business awareness around applicable laws and regulations through training and day-to day interactions.
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and approving agreements as needed.
- Prompt intervention to manage contractual conflicts/litigation.
- Proactive monitoring and management of existing partnerships and alliances.
- Supporting and participating in strategic discussions around research and license partnerships and CROs management.
- Management of external Legal counsel, disputes and/or litigation as needed.
- Provision of strategic legal advice as needed, in particular, to Global Medical Affairs, Development and Regulatory functions, acting as a key business partner in day-to-day activities
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and approving agreements as needed
- Supporting and participating in strategic discussions around products development
In return, you will bring:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of post-qualification experience, including relevant international experience in the healthcare sector, in-house or law firm
- Experience in Research and Development legal support (including regulatory law),
- Business counseling experience, including significant pharmaceutical company experience
- Experience implementing change initiatives and working in a challenging business environment
- Experience with drafting, analysis and negotiation of international contracts
- Fluency in French or other languages is a plus
- Experience negotiating with CROs and, biotech and Research Academics
- Experience supporting oncology and rare diseases programs will be a plus
