Position Overview

Nektar Therapeutics is looking for an exceptional Research Associate II to join our In Vitro Pharmacology, Research Biology team in our San Francisco office.

The successful candidate will participate in the design and conduct of in vitro cellular assays to enable screening and mechanism of action studies for potential therapeutics in a variety of disease areas, including immuno-oncology. This position contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

Applicants should possess strong knowledge of and be proficient in a variety of relevant experimental biology techniques, such as cell culture, immunoassays, flow cytometry, and qPCR. Mammalian cell culture experience is required; experience handling primary cells is a plus. Experience with cell-based assay development is highly desirable. Finally, must be able to work independently to complete experiments, analyze data, and present results within given timelines. The individual will be expected to document experimental findings according to approved Nektar policy.

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a biology-related discipline is required. A minimum of 2 years work experience in a research and/or development environment is required. Pharma/Biotech industry experience highly desirable. The candidate must have excellent analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational skills are required. Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making skills, possess good oral and written communication skills, and be able to demonstrate sound judgment. Must have demonstrated problem solving abilities. Previous hands-on practical laboratory experience is required. Good computer skills are required. Must be able to work well in and promote a team environment.

Employees must be able to lift or handle objects greater than 25 pounds to perform certain duties essential to the job function. Performance of tasks essential to the job function may require the employee to work directly with, handle, or otherwise come into contact with chemicals or pharmaceutical agents. Employees must be able to wear a respiratory protection (filtering facepiece, 1/2 face, full-face, or powered air purifying respirator, supplied air, or self contained breathing apparatus) for certain tasks essential to the job function. Employees must be able to able to accurately detect color and have 20/20 vision (with/without corrective lenses). Employees may be required to enroll in a medical surveillance program based on the potential exposure to certain health hazards encountered as a result of their job function.
