Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the allogeneic cell therapy Process Development team as a Senior Process Engineer - Allogenic Process Development. In this role, the successful candidate will support process development and technology transfer for Kite's engineered allogeneic T-cell therapy products, interact cross-functionally with partner functions to support pre-clinical and clinical development, as well as participate in new technology evaluation and implementation. Internally known as a Sr. Process Engineer III, The Senior Engineer will be expected to independently craft and perform experiments, coordinate and analyze results, and communicate findings through development reports and internal / external presentations.

Responsibilities of the Senior Process Engineer - Allogeneic Process Development include:
  • Develop, optimize and establish allogeneic T-cell production platforms with a focus on T-cell activation, large scale T-cell expansion and T-cell processing and cell recovery using innovative systems
  • Design and execute studies to develop a thorough understanding of operating and performance parameters in bioreactors of multiple types
  • Work on sophisticated problems where analysis of situations or data requires comprehensive evaluation of many factors
  • Develop and execute in process assays (e.g. flow cytometry) to understand attributes and phenotype of engineered T-cells
  • Participate in hands on activities that support process development and process characterization, ranging from drafting procedures to execution of laboratory studies, data analysis and authoring and review of technical documents
  • Routinely present results of work, including data interpretation and study conclusions
  • Maintain high level of expertise through familiarity with relevant scientific literature
  • Demonstrate effective communication and social skills to enable collaborative work
  • Cultivate reciprocal communication and problem-solving spirit


Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline with 3+ years of experience with flow cytometry, T-cell biology (e.g. phenotyping), and hands-on expertise with operation of bioreactors, together with aseptic tissue culture of cell lines and/or primary cells


MS degree with 6+ years of the aforementioned experience


BS degree with 10+ years of the aforementioned experience


High School Degree with 14+ years of the aforementioned experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cell therapy, T-cell product generation, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) based or TCR-engineered T-cells along with an understanding of T-cell and immune system biology
  • Ability to mentor and train more junior staff as a peer as well as a manager; together with the ability to work well within a matrix team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to critically design and execute experiments to support process development, characterization and process improvements
  • Knowledge of statistical design of experiments (DOE)
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are critical in this collaborative work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to function efficiently and independently in a fast-paced work environment and adjust workload based upon changing priorities
