Overview: The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, early stage company environment and will be flexible to accommodate shifting company priorities. The individual will independently design, execute, and analyze experiments to advance goals relative to specific projects as well as contribute to a variety of R&D responsibilities including routine lab maintenance, assay development and validation, quality control, and cross-departmental support. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and is willing to adapt to shifting priorities and switch between projects seamlessly. This position will fulfill a variety of roles instrumental to the successful development of Akadeum’s growing platform capabilities.
Specific Responsibilities for this role will include:
- Develop long-term project outlines for new product and business development projects as needed.
- Independently design, execute, and analyze experiments for specific research projects.
- Perform cell isolation and depletion experiments with downstream flow cytometric data collection
- Analyze experimental data and draw conclusions using basic statistical techniques
- Present experimental results at weekly R&D meetings
- Support general R&D tasks such as cell culture, reagent prep, lab maintenance, sample phenotyping, etc. as needed.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all experimental work performed in the lab in a lab notebook
- Assist with general lab maintenance responsibilities
Qualifications:
- BS in a relevant biological or chemical science (examples include immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, protein chemistry) with two years industry experience, or MS/PhD with one year industry experience.
- Minimum three years wet lab experience
- Demonstrated grasp of basic laboratory etiquette, tools, and techniques
- Basic proficiency in MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to consistently adhere to SOPs with a high degree of fidelity
- Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to perform multiple-hour experiments with little to no supervision
- Ability to maintain excellent records (lab book and digital)
- Proven strong time management skills
- Comfort working in biological safety cabinets with proficiency in aseptic techniques
Interpersonal Characteristics
- Eagerness to learn and master a variety of laboratory techniques
- Willingness to learn immunology, cell separation, and molecular biology topics as needed
- Comfortable with managing competing priorities while analyzing experimental data and presenting results with short turn-around times
- Self-starter with strong work ethic – effective utilization of “down time”
- Strong sense of scientific standards and ethics
- Creative and driven to find solutions using both iterative and outside-the-box approaches
- Comfortable working in a collaborative research environment
