Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individuals to join our Summer Internship Program! As an intern at Kite, you'll have the unique opportunity to learn about cell therapy from some of the brightest minds in biotech while making a meaningful impact. The Role

The Quality Control (QC) Department at Frederick Maryland Site, is seeking a highly motivated individual as a Summer Intern to help the QC department set up and create a Lean Process for QC Laboratory Operations. In this role, you will work with the QC team to support our efforts to set up QC Analytical lab and establish processes for QC Operation Readiness. This role will be a hands-on resource to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost of the QC analytical lab.

Through this project, the intern will gain an understanding of Kite's analytical process in Quality Control operations. The intern will use 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) methodologies to help QC Analytical Team organize lab activities, such as materials and reagents preparation, sample receiving, routine analytical testing and batch record generation. The goal is to improve efficiency, eliminate waste, and increase consistency.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Read, understand and train on applicable procedures in QC Analytical.
  • Prepare and maintain testing materials, controls and inventory to support tech transfer activities.
  • Ensure timely completion of scheduled tasks.
  • Complete daily lab housekeeping activities, to include equipment start-up/shutdown, cleaning.
  • Ensure instruments/equipment are in calibrated and functional condition.
  • Participate in calibration and troubleshooting various types of equipment to include the proactive resolution of instrument issues.
  • Review record keeping and documentation of laboratory equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with complex investigations by obtaining root cause and implementing changes.
  • Support department compliance and productivity goals.
  • Participate in daily standing meetings (Tier meetings) and staff meetings as required.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to increase work efficiency and reduce cost.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Must be currently enrolledin a full time Bachelor's Degree program at an accredited university/college
  • Must have completed at least one year of study at an accredited university/college prior to internship commencing
  • Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship
  • Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between June and September
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without Kite sponsorship
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree concentration(s) in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology or related field of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to take direction, communicate effectively, and work as an individual contributor as well as within a team environment
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
  • Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with GLP/GMP working environment
  • Experience with Quality Control Lab set up, Lean 5S
  • Experience in life science laboratories
  • Analytical lab experience - knowledge and hands on experience with cell culture, ELISA, PCR, and Flow cytometry will be a plus
