Purpose:

The R&D HQ Finance team manages a budget of ~ $4Bn, which includes ~ $1.5Bn for AbbVie Global Clinical Studies. The Financial Analyst, R&D Financial Reporting is responsible for a variety of accounting tasks to support Actual & Tax reporting for the R&D function, utilizing multiple financial and reporting systems. The role includes responsibility for submission of the R&D Tax Credit and all other required Tax filings for R&D, audit support for all Internal & External Finance audits, Fixed Asset support (including retirement and transfer of R&D assets, and coordination of the Fixed Asset verification for R&D), and monitoring of overdue Concur transactions for all R&D employees.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for preparation of the R&D Tax Credit (annual submission of Federal & State Tax Credit packages). Reviews cost elements flagged as Non-Qualified accounts, to identify additional qualifying expenses throughout the year. Requests reclass of expenses in order to maximize the credit, reviews cost centers with reported project hours below 80%, maintains support documentation as mandated for 10 years post filing, and collects & calculates data in preparation of the Illinois State Tax Credit filing.
  • Responsible for completion of the State and Federal Tax questionnaires, with information from the R&D general ledger (SAP).
  • Assists in compiling and providing all audit documentation to FSS (Finance Shared Services), in response to audit requests from Internal & External auditors.
  • Responsible for Fixed Asset support, including review and approval of Maximo service requests for accuracy, and retirement/transfer of assets. Ensures assets with remaining life are noted for storage and redeployment. Responsible for aged/obsolete asset cleanup, and the annual R&D asset verification.
  • Responsible for independently managing all other Tax requirements for R&D. Includes (but not limited to): Quarterly submissions of Clinical & Drug Safety Grant analysis of domestic payments and quarterly estimates; Annual submissions of Information and Technology (ICT), Foreign-based schedule, Boycott questionnaire, UK AFR Clinical Report, Schedule B - U.S. Reporter's Purchases of Selected Services, and New Technology & Milestone payments.
  • Monitors Concur overdue travel transactions for all R&D employees, notifies employees of overdue CTE travel transactions, and follows up to resolve delinquent expenses.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 2+ year's related accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in day-to-day activities, and effectively manage time to complete all deliverables on time

Preferred:
  • SAP experience
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Tax accounting principles
